Fall-Winter 2020 Looks From FDMTL” – A Live Presentation By Gaku Tsuyoshi

Founded in 2005, FDMTL is one of the most well known Japanese denim brands and is born to create denim with unique fits and washes typically unavailable to the denim market, showcased its Fall-Winter 2020 Collection at the 2nd edition of Denimsandjeans Virtual Show which concluded on October 15, 2020.

Gaku Tsuyoshi, owner of FDMTL presented the latest FW 2020 collection where he showcased some of his favorite pieces from this collection.

The FW 20 collection includes pieces that were developed under a collaboration including one with Mickey Mouse also.

Mr Gaku also showcased one distressed denim made of Japanese Fabric (Sahsiko) which was distressed in style and had patchwork and completely handmade in Japan.

Another piece which Mr Gaku showcased was a basic black jeans where the brand has used Japanese fabric and was minutely distressed.

Since Japanese brands do not follow any particular season and widely known for their season-less collection, FDMTL also keeps some core jeans in their collection which carry on for years .

A reflective shirt with interesting detailing was also showcased which becomes rich in texture and developed its own character with time.

A Motorbike Jacket was had Sashika printed reflective design which is not only attractive but adds a safety feature for bikers at night.

Another interesting collaboration article showcased by him was a Mickey Mouse with a covering of boro fabric developed in Italy . Prima Facie it looks that it is hand stitched boro but its a jacquard fabric which gives a unique boro effect.

In the end, Mr. Gaku concluded the discussion with a very positive note and said that 2020 is really bad for everyone but there is a lot to learn from this and he hopes to have a very good 2021 year.

The brand now returned with Spring Summer 20 denim collection with friendly staples, stitched layers , patchworked mesh , distressed patterns , the brand launched the spring summer collecton.

The collection showcased Japanese boro (Japanese upcycled patchwork) applied to jackets, coats, shirts, and jeans and shibori dying on jackets and pants. The denim with patchworks and designs is presented through jackets, shirts, and jeans complying with the Japanese summer freshness.

A slim fit that combines a slender line that tapers toward the hem and a comfortable fit. While using red ear denim that can enjoy deep discoloration, while incorporating the details unique to vintage denim, the sewing thread uses a high-strength thread with a cotton thread wrapped around a polyester core, and a front zipper specification It has been updated to the modern version.

The silhouette is a classic straight with a small amount of rise. The hem width has been adjusted and the pattern has been modified to create a silhouette that is easy and comfortable to wear. Full of details unique to vintage denim such as hidden rivets and button fly.

Because each of the applied processing has a reason, you can create a deep expression like vintage denim that goes beyond mere design. It is a space that is free from efficiency, and can be finished with manual gaps while repeating trial and error.

Japanese label FDMTL Â recently unveiled its lookbook for their new Spring / Summer 2018 collection. The label stands distinguished from many other brands in Japan in its uniqueness of distressed and combo fabric looks. The brand continues to offer selection of patchwork pieces come to fore as the Japanese-bred imprint is apt to purvey. In FDMTLâ€™s Spring/Summer 2018 collection, they continue their never ending experimental journey into denim while also including other pieces to show versatility and well-roundedness.Â The indigo items in the collection play with beautifully executed patchwork done with a vintage feel. FDMTL â€“ the denim brand from Japan- cameÂ out with a lot of distressed, bi colors ,patchworks and military looks inÂ theirÂ AWâ€™14/15 collection.Â The label stands distinguished from many other brands in Japan in its uniqueness of distressed and combo fabric looks.Â The founder designer – Tsuyoshi Gaku â€“ designs and creates these items in Okayama, Japan.

FDMTL â€“ with a long complete name ofÂ Full Agreement Luxury-
is a denim label from Tokyo, Japan which aims to be differentiate itself from other brands in Japan. While most brands in Japan focus on Raw denim, FDMILâ€™s main emphasis is on distressed denims. They also work out interesting and not so regular looksÂ with their denims. We spoke to the founder and creative designer Tsuyoshi GakuÂ to know more about the label.
When we asked him about the concept behind his label and its long name, he described :

â€œFUNDAMENTAL AGREEMENT LUXURY” produces mainly denim garments which are made in the world-wide manufacturing capital for denimÂ Okayama, Japan Their uncompromising products are carefully made with such incredible detail that is difficult to obtain by mass production means.The brand name is derived from the literal interpretation of its words. FUNDAMENTAL AGREEMENT = having a basic agreement with our customers to provide them with quality product. Our promise. LUXURY = suggests that our product is a cut above the rest in every wayâ€

To stress further the make of the brand , he further said :

â€œFUNDAMENTAL AGREEMENT LUXURY denim is “JAPAN MADE”. This includes the fabric, sewing and manufacturing. The vast knowledge and experience from skilled workmen is put into each product, resulting in detailed special product that you can ‘ t achieve through mass production.

When we wanted to clarify with him the reason for focusing on distressed denimÂ while most Japanese brands tend to be oriented towards raw denim, he said:

â€œI like jeans because i think jeans is an industrial product just like TV, iPod etc ,but at the same time, jeans are more like creatures ,because they change…depending on the shape of the person who wears etc…i like the distressing process, and this is why iâ€™m making distress jeans, but i would say it’s an aging jeans jeans in which you can feel the background. And our customers are quite comfortable in distressed jeans. â€¦..All our jeans are hand made, we use small machines too, but work withÂ hands too. For the sewing process, we use vintage sewing machines too â€“ Union Special machines.Â And the distressing is done by hands and not large laundries.

For itsÂ FWâ€™13 collection, FDMTL follows two concepts –
- Bi color
- Military
Putting 2 or more kinds of fabric together and trying to show new feeling of fabrics is what is the focus for this collection as per Tsuyoshi Gaku . He further says

â€œi like making clothing only with denim fabric, but for the current season most items are made with the combination of some kinds of fabricsâ€¦â€.

Looks from part of his collection follow . The bi-color and bi-fabricÂ combinations are particularly interesting in some of them especially where military fabrics have been conjoined with the denim fabrics. Distressing on some of the jeans is quite intricate and the hard work appreciable. The retail price point ofÂ FDMLÂ range from $150-$350 .
