How I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m doing\u00e2\u20ac\u2039,\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 that outpouring and has been amazing. <br><br>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039W\u00e2\u20ac\u2039e have a facility here in the United States which is still running \u00e2\u20ac\u2039and \u00e2\u20ac\u2039all of our factories are still running and so I think overall the company has done a lot on crisis management and what we needed to do so we had different plans\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039Even for the New York office, we have six people \u00e2\u20ac\u2039and\u00e2\u20ac\u2039\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 we had already started to plan different scenarios of how we would handle it and then it was a little over two weeks ago that we switched into working from home \u00e2\u20ac\u2039to ensure the safety of us and to make sure that our families are also safe during this time\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039From a business perspective, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve seen this change \u00e2\u20ac\u2039,\u00e2\u20ac\u2039we went through talking with partners, \u00e2\u20ac\u2039a lot of \u00e2\u20ac\u2039cancelation of orders happening \u00e2\u20ac\u2039due to the shutdowns of retail\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 stores\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 in the past few weeks \u00e2\u20ac\u2039. We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve also been very\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039busy soliciting and dealing with questions that the market has around how to\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039connect for gowns and masks\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re reaching out to the supply chain and\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039many of them are also coming to us too, what can we do? Our fibers are used in different nonwovens not necessarily for masks\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 but for other nonwoven applications. What fabrics with our fibers could be used for gowns and how we could help with the medical protective wear. That is needed now and this is happening also in Europe because everyone\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s looking within\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039their region on how they can support these products \u00e2\u20ac\u2039.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<\/strong><strong>Sandeep :<\/strong> <br>What do you think after\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039looking at all the kind of cancellation in terms of the stores \u00e2\u20ac\u2039are\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 closing\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 and there are lots \u00e2\u20ac\u2039cancelation coming \u00e2\u20ac\u2039out, how is the supply chain going to be affected by this\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 I \u00e2\u20ac\u2039am speaking \u00e2\u20ac\u2039to Mills as \u00e2\u20ac\u2039well as \u00e2\u20ac\u2039garment manufacturers\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 and\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 everybody is in a big mess\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tricia : <\/strong><br>Yes, It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a huge mess right now\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039No one can plan\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 There\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s such uncertainty about when the stores will reopen \u00e2\u20ac\u2039and when orders will start to come \u00e2\u20ac\u2039through again. When I spoke with customers and at first, it was 50%\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039of their orders were canceled\u00e2\u20ac\u2039,\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 then 75\u00e2\u20ac\u2039%\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 and \u00e2\u20ac\u2039now \u00e2\u20ac\u2039it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s up to 90 percent or\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039completely canceled\u00e2\u20ac\u2039, I mean how does someone run a business this way\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 ,\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 you\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039just can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t\u00e2\u20ac\u2039. \u00e2\u20ac\u2039 I think we all know that there was already an overcapacity of\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039denim in the market\u00e2\u20ac\u2039,\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 we had much more capacity than what was really needed. Also as consumers you know we have to look at our consumption factor too \u00e2\u20ac\u2039. So I see this is a chance for us to hit the reset button. I hope collectively this happens\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039within the industry and other industries too. I feel it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a chance for the retail industry to change some of their ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039We have so much inventory coming into the stores in the United States.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 We have this terrible way of promotion all the time\u00e2\u20ac\u2039,&nbsp;you need to have 60% off in order to sell apparel because customers are just trained that way\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 I wish that the US retailers operated more like some of the European retailers and with sales twice a year and that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s it. Start fresh in some ways\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 <br>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2039t\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a reflection time that we can then reorganize and react in the right way that we need to build a stronger market. This is kind of the time of survival of the fittest\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 and\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 I really believe that we have this chance now in order to change\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039&nbsp;\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sandeep<\/strong><br>If you look at one perspective that even after the recovery from this situation do you think the \u00e2\u20ac\u2039kind of volume\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 and\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 the kind of business that we \u00e2\u20ac\u2039had experienced\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 in the industry\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 so far is going to be affected. Do you think so\u00e2\u20ac\u2039?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TRICIA<\/strong><br>Yes\u00e2\u20ac\u2039, We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve already seen some of the smaller companies\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 struggling and\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 there are rumors in the market about some mergers that may happen. What will be the mentality of the consumer coming out of this\u00e2\u20ac\u2039?&nbsp; What does post-pandemic\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 look like? I think now we reached a time where we also have our own&nbsp;definition of conscious living\u00e2\u20ac\u2039,\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 so sustainability will take on a different meaning \u00e2\u20ac\u2039\u00e2\u20ac\u2039because we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve all gone back to basics\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>W\u00e2\u20ac\u2039e will have this time to re-evaluate and look for clothing which will become more of protection.&nbsp; Now we look at how we can protect ourselves against getting this virus. Whether that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s masks or other apparel. Also now we look at how our apparel protects us and keeps us safe. This is also a mindset change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SANDEEP<\/strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<br>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039Do you think post-pandemic, people are going to look at less quantity and higher quality\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 products?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TRICIA<\/strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 <br>Y\u00e2\u20ac\u2039es\u00e2\u20ac\u2039, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 do think \u00e2\u20ac\u2039so. People will return to value \u00e2\u20ac\u2039and also an understanding of the social side of the apparel industry.&nbsp; We were starting to engage in more of this before Corona who made our clothes\u00e2\u20ac\u2039? Where are products coming from? I think that will continue to be questioned\u00e2\u20ac\u2039\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 because now we have a greater sense of how we are interconnected in the world.&nbsp; This is where it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s important that the consumers want to know who was involved in making this garment. I think that&nbsp;transparency and the building of the stories around transparency will only continue after Corona because now there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a heightened awareness\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039There is some news floating that Americans have to \u00e2\u20ac\u2039wear face masks \u00e2\u20ac\u2039every time they are in public. Now we have three hundred and thirty million people that are going to be buying face masks and we know that not everyone is going to buy disposable masks \u00e2\u20ac\u2039and we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll see some changes there as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039SANDEEP<\/strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<br>So maybe designing \u00e2\u20ac\u2039of \u00e2\u20ac\u2039clothing will be greatly affected\u00e2\u20ac\u2039,In terms of as you said towards making protective clothing and \u00e2\u20ac\u2039also industry may look at a different kind of masks\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039,\u00e2\u20ac\u2039different kind of other designs coming up \u00e2\u20ac\u2039, What do you think?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TRICIA<\/strong><br>Yes, and you start to see that already. Now there is creativeness that is happening. As we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve moved into\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039this focus on how we can protect ourselves. In the past few weeks, the supply chain has been trying to find materials that currently exist for masks\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039I\u00e2\u20ac\u2039t\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not about selling a fiber\u00e2\u20ac\u2039,\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s about how we can support our partners. If there is yarn available or fabric available and we have those connections, we are trying to help. But you already start to see some of the innovation in \u00e2\u20ac\u2039masks\u00e2\u20ac\u2039. I had one customer reach out to me that Gerber is using their machines to actually develop a mask and it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s one piece of fabric that then goes behind your ears without the need for elastic. You might have seen on social media\u00e2\u20ac\u2039, some of the medical personnel are complaining about wearing the elastic behind their ears and if could they somehow attach it to a headband. I think these are innovations that come out of this time.&nbsp; That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s where application innovation that can also happen within this segment of the industry and many of our denim mill partners are looking at how they can support providing fabrics for medical applications \u00e2\u20ac\u2039\u00e2\u20ac\u2039now\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.<br><br><strong>SANDEEP<\/strong><br>Are we going seasonless? \u00e2\u20ac\u2039<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TRICIA<\/strong><br>Yes, we are. \u00e2\u20ac\u2039In the past two weeks\u00e2\u20ac\u2039, people are staying in their workout wear or pajamas all day long with this work from home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u00e2\u20ac\u2039o I think we will be back to basics. That\u00e2\u20ac\u2039\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 happening. People will be\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039again looking for comfort. They will be looking for fabrics that can protect\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039them, whether it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s antimicrobial or antibacterial finishes. So I think\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039there will be some changes. I also think knits will increase because there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a comfort that you get from the knit\u00e2\u20ac\u2039s which could be very interesting even for the denim market using indigo \u00e2\u20ac\u2039knits. This was a category that was starting to evolve prior to Corona and I think it will continue\u00e2\u20ac\u2039. There\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a comment here about a season less also being long-lasting and this goes back to consumption changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039SANDEEP<\/strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<br>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039So if we look at the keys now the keywords which are coming out are\u00e2\u20ac\u2039-\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 one is seasonless \u00e2\u20ac\u2039and the other \u00e2\u20ac\u2039is nearshoring \u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 Any other keywords which you strongly feel\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 are relevant during this time? <br>Also about sustainability. Of course, your\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039company has made such a huge contribution towards this cause what we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re trying to achieve but how really sustainability would be affected by this \u00e2\u20ac\u2039co\u00e2\u20ac\u2039rana thing positively or negatively \u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039TRICIA<\/strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<br>I would add to that performance. Regional or near sourcing definitely.&nbsp; Sustainability environmental and social concerns. I think now the two are going to be tied so closely. For Len\u00e2\u20ac\u2039zing, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been working around circularity as a part of sustainability with our REFIBRA&#x2122;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think again there is heightened awareness around sustainability. Also a chance to step back and reflect. I also think another key concept out of this time will be more around <strong>collaboration<\/strong>. Because we see how we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re interconnected. When you have the forces behind a common\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039goal and how you can reach them. I think our collaboration will only be\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039heightened through all of this pandemic. We really need to work together to\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039make these changes. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d like to see that all of these forces us to work together faster. <br><br>We were going along and we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039talking about sustainability. You know who is greenwashing or now\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s also ethical washing that is happening. Let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s use\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039this time for a strong momentum and a real force to make that change\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<strong>Sandeep<\/strong><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<\/strong><br>I agree with you completely and would globalization be one of the things which would take a backseat. What do you think?\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039Tricia\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<\/strong><br>Yes, we were saying regional\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039sourcing.&nbsp; I think we will see also a tightening up of supply chain partners\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039we had seen this over the years. That will\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039definitely continue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<\/strong><strong>Sandeep<\/strong><br>And what do you think of the best positive \u00e2\u20ac\u2039things which will come out post-pandemic and how it affects professionally \u00e2\u20ac\u2039?\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<strong>Tricia<\/strong><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039<\/strong><br>I think\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039personally\u00e2\u20ac\u2039,\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 I have a greater strength \u00e2\u20ac\u2039being with \u00e2\u20ac\u2039my family\u00e2\u20ac\u2039. \u00e2\u20ac\u2039Now my kids are both\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039home from school. I was really impressed with how my kids have handled everything\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 My son is in high school and my daughter came home from college.&nbsp; She\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s studying fashion\u00e2\u20ac\u2039, and it is\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 easy for me to help her with some of her projects. We do have a greater sense of our family\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039I think also from a professional standpoint\u00e2\u20ac\u2039,\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s how we use digital tools more now.&nbsp; Connecting through video cameras and our team meetings are online\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.&nbsp; Why do we need to be traveling\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039so much? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think that will be very interesting to see what we change. Let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s face it\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re not flipping a switch and suddenly all hopping on an airplane. This is going to take a bit of time for everyone to come back.&nbsp; We will reassess this kind of hamster wheel we were on constantly going\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039know for me it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s strange to have no trade shows planned right now, no flights to board, no physical meetings with customers. Another very strange thing is not having garments telling the story.&nbsp; To demonstrate that, now we have to come up with new ways of getting details across. I think there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be some changes to how we work on a daily basis and\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 how designers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 creative process is changing right now. Because\u00e2\u20ac\u2039 \u00e2\u20ac\u2039the inspiration no longer comes from immersing themselves and going to a different location. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will see what changes. It will be interesting to what happens to our \u00e2\u20ac\u2039design and development calendar. If we work more regionally how will that affect us\u00e2\u20ac\u2039?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039Sandeep<\/strong><br>I think we all of us will come out with flying colors in and innovate in our own ways to deal with the situation and we need to all get-together and fight it out\u00e2\u20ac\u2039.\u00e2\u20ac\u2039&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2039Tricia<\/strong> <br>We have to stay strong,&nbsp; stay home,  stay healthy, and keep our minds clear. I think this is how we will get through it.
