Google is the largest storehouse of knowledge globally with its huge databases of searches, documents, books and much more. It is not a repository of information , but it is perhaps the only organization which has an accurate assimilation of needs and wants of global population . Almost everyone using internet searches Google and leave their mark of what they are looking for , their needs, desires etc. Google stores all this information and then its very easy for it retrieve the same in the format required. Eg , Google would be able to give answers to questions like – People of which cities are looking for different varieties of pizzas, from where people are looking to travel to space, where can we find people who are looking most for higher education etc etc .
If we apply the same to our industry, we can also find how are consumers looking for jeans globally. Which are the cities where jeans search is the highest or what kind of jeans they are searching for . Lets dive into the Google trends to look for some answers.

Global Search For Denim in last 1 year

As we can see from above pictures, global search for keyword “Denim” and “Denim” remains more or less the same with little fluctuations. So we can safely predict that consumer interest in denim . However, when we look at a 5 year period from September 2013,, we find that the interest had spiked almost 30% with the current level being considered as 100. All these figures are relative terms and not absolute .

Which country is relatively searching more for keyword “Jeans”

From the above picture we can see that UK , Sweden, Brazil, Australia and Germany are the top 5 countries where searches related to “Jeans” are maximum relative to their total searches. This means that people in these countries are searching jeans vigorously. Besides, it would be important to understand what are the related keywords which they use when they are searching for jeans. We check this by each country :

United Kingdom

UK searches for the below mentioned keywords which are considered as Top Keywords people use to search for denim.

But when we look at the recent queries related to “jeans” which are getting popular , we find the following results for UK. These queries give good insight into what the consumers are looking for . Are they looking for “One size fits all jeans” ? A very pertinent question for retailers, brands and others in the supply chain to consider. It is a good indication of consumer preferences and their likes . Similarly we have a look at the TOP queries related to Jeans in Sweden , Brazil, Australia and Germany and find that population of each country is looking at jeans in its own unique way.

Germany

Top searches related to “Jeans”

Germany

Recent searches related to “Jeans”

So as we study all the results above , we can draw following conclusions :

UK, Sweden , Australia , Brazil and Germany are the countries where “jeans” as a keyword is searched most relatively . When we say relatively, it means within their total searches. It Does Not mean that these are the largest consumers of jeans or that other countries love jeans any less.

The search queries are different over different periods – 1 year and recent. The recent searches show the latest preferences of people on what they are searching related to jeans.

Each country has their own search preference. This can give retailers and brands direction on what each country is looking for.

All these searches are indicative and as we change the search terms, the results will change. However, we can get a good broad idea from the above.

We will continue this series with a few more indepth analysis !

What is your favourite pair of jeans? And how do you find it online?

Is it from well known denim brands established for a long time eg ‘Levi’s, Wrangler, Lee etc . Or do you fancy the famous premium denim brands like ‘7 For All Mankind’ , ‘ J Brand ‘ , ‘ True Religion’ etc ? Some of us are great fans of Japanese denim brands like ‘ Samurai’ , ‘Sugarcane’ , ‘Evisu’ .. And there are denim brands like ‘ Iron Heart’ from Japan or ‘ Nudie’ from Sweden which have their strong fan following .
How do you search for the obscure and the not so obscure denim brands or for that unique pair of jeans that your friend has recommended to you after visiting the Far East ? There are definitely many sites offering jeans online from various denim brands . But it is difficult to find most of the known denim brands from any single site.
But there is always Google (the Daddy) to help .. But searching on Google also is not so easy and most of the time one ends up on pages which do not have any relation to the jeans that you want to search and buy. One has to sift through a number of pages before coming to the right result pages – espeically in case of smaller – boutique brands.

So , we decided to take a humble attempt at helping in the process of searching for the right pair of jeans for our readers.
We have created a separate search page ‘ Search and Buy Denim Jeans’ where one can search for different brands/styles of denim jeans . Just visit this page and you can search for almost any kind of denim jeans . Try searching for ‘ PRPS’ denim or ‘ Iron Heart’ denim ….

This search function would be continously upbdated so that the latest and even more obscure brands could be detected from the deepest of web and brought out .
It would be nice to have some feedback on this search function so that we can improve it further…

What do you do when :

a)You need to find about Denim brands or
b)You need to find Denim buyers to sell your fabric and garments or
c)You need to study about the Trends in Denim or
d)You need a job related to Denim in(say) New York or Delhi or
e)You have any other denim related queries..
f)You need to buy a particular style of a jeans brand but do not know where to buy from.

Well, for me, I used to go to Google and hope to find some answer. Or I would to visit some denim forums or blogs and try to search them individually. By the time I would find any answer, I would be totally exhausted and probably give up many times..

As I earlier mentioned, it seems to be much easier to SEARCH ANYTHING ON DENIM ..
Just visit the at Denim Search Engine . I use it regularly for searching various denim related articles and I thought it might come in handy to others as well..This engine SEARCHES ONLY DENIM RELATED WEBPAGES

How do I use this Search Engine ?

a)To find which Denim Brands(well known) has created Color Jeans,I would just
make a search ‘Color’ and click on ‘DENIM BRANDS’ label in the search results
and I would know that the brands that have come out with color denims.

b)If I need to find a job in New York for a denim designer, I would just search ‘NewYork Designer’ and in the search result, I would CLICK on ‘DENIM JOBS’ label and instantly get this list of denim jobs in USA.
c)Buyers –Since nobody employed me , I decided to export some denims to USA and searched ‘USA’ and in the search results, I clicked on ‘DENIM BUYERS’ and I found a long list of buyers (on various sites) who had current enquiries on denim.
d)Recent articles : I sometimes need to know what kind of posts people are making about various brand names. But it is difficult to find in reverse order – the date of posts . Now, suppose in this engine, I search for ‘DVB’..In the search results, I click on ‘RECENT4) and I get the latest posts related to DVB brand. It kind of enables one to keep track of what people are saying about your brand. Also I can check out if some top news sites have made a mention regarding DVB and I click on the label ‘TOP NEWS SITES’ and I find that Reuters had a news item on them recently.
e)Denim Blogs : It is interesting to search any term and then click on ‘DENIM BLOGS’ label in the search results. It gives an idea what top denim bloggers (including myself ) think about that search term..No need now to search all these different blogs to find any relevant articles.

Now the Denim Search Engine Search box is available right here on our site. On the right panel, you willl see the search box . Just make any search on Denim and use the Labels like ‘Denim Blogs’, ‘Buy Jeans’ etc to refine the results.

Check out This Search Engine which is specially made for Denim Search . I found results not very bad and the good thing is that even the pages down the line ie pages 3rd,4th, 5th and so on, also have some relevant information. However, it would be good to have some comments on the same from other users..

Google Trends is a very interesting service from Google which enables us to find what is the trend for search on particular keywords.
I checked the trends for search on two keywords – Denim and Premium Denim..
The results are interesting:

1)Search trend for ‘Denim’:

a)The search volume for the keyword ‘Denim’ is almost the same since 2004. However, it peaked in the
year 2005 (when Denim was on a high).
b)The country from where the highest search for ‘Denim’ originated was , understandably, USA.
But it was surprising to see Australia coming at number 2 position in ALL TIME Search for ‘Denim’.
Wow, I did’nt realize that Australians were so fond of Denims.
2)Search Trend for ‘Premium Denim’

a)Before the year 2007 , there was hardly any volume of search for ‘Premium Denim’. Though the Premium Denim trend had started in 2004 or before, the general public really got sucked in the trend as late as 2007 only.Hence we can also see a large number of new Premium Denim labels spring up in the last 2 years..
b)Again, its the USA which tops the list for the search. However, the second place is taken by CANADA . No doubt, we can see a lot of Canadian Premium Labels springing up !! .. Austalia is again third indicating its strong affiliation to Denim..
