Continuing our last article on Fall 2018 Ready to Wear Part I , we bring here the second part of the article.

Balmain

With a futuristic theme , Balmain played with distressing on jeans and tried to improve its aesthetics . Designed tatters were held together using clear plastic coverings. Hems played an important role in some of the pieces as they became part of distresses or for creating structural patterns on the dress.

Miu Miu

Focusing on teen subculture of 50s and 60s , Miu Miu brings bleached denim paired with leather jackets, coats , tweeds etc. The high waisted double belted bleached denims brought out the 60s rocker teen looks…

Faustine Steinmetz

Faustine Steinmetz has always been the designer who gave her own interpretation of denim in each collection. Most of the time, seeming to be playing with elements, her pieces had that ethereal flow which made them come out as kind of super normal . However, current collection is more subdued , though she has used hand felting and knitting techniques to give a super imposed additive look rather than desconstructed distressed look. The ethereal touch still remains in some of the pieces as the felt looks like snow sticking on to them.

Continuing in the series of Ready to Wear 2018 Runway Collection, we bring below the second part which brings the looks from some more brands like Givenchy, Faustine Steinmeitz and Versus Versace. While Givenchy brings out the Super dark denims (well treated with overdyes etc) and combined with velvet and leather combinations for a high end look. On the other hand Faustine Steinmetz brings a very experimental collection with , as many times , “Denim in Motion ” concept . The collection is not exactly wearable with extreme tears and pieces , the same does inspire others to experiment more with their denims and look away from traditional looks . Faustine Steinmetz uses her amazing talent to rework classic apparel pieces and give them a totally different personality altogether. She just deconstructs everyday pieces and reinvents them. Her originality stands out as she brings out her Spring Summer ‘18 pieces on the runway. Denim is a perennial source of fascination for designers like Faustine Steinmetz who use turn denim making into an art form. She studies the various trends originating in different regions of the world and develops the idea further.

The current collection for AW 17 has been inspired by trends in Nordic regions, Israel, South America etc. She goes from very clean and tidy Nordic looks to mashed up denims with embroideries and embellishments in South America and attractive washes in Israel. She develops further on these themes and adds her own special element of touch there. Faustine Steinmetz Exhibits Her Slow Fashion Collections

Faustine Steinmetz, a French designer based in London, she graduated from Central Saint Martins and she created her own brand in 2013 after working for Jeremy Scott and Henrik Vibskov. She is a pioneer in ‘slow fashion’; think of this as the anti movement to the ever increasing turnover in the current fashion industry. After doing her masters her career skyrocketed, with her innovative and ecologically-mindful brand ethos. Her aim is to recover the craftsmanship and appreciation that goes into creating garments, especially mainstream items such as jeans. Her denim creations are to be coveted and collected. Working with the industrial staple, Steinmetz focuses on sustainability at the heart of our collections.The Paris-born designer creates and manufactures all of her designs in the UK, including hand making the yarn.

Slow Denim is an exhibition by this French designer , currently held at the Joyce Gallery in Paris, where she exhibits her reaction to our throwaway culture, explaining just how much work goes into each an every piece of clothing made for the Steinmetz brand. This concept is a complete anti-thesis of fast fashion and deliberately seeks to bring out the into focus the need to SLOW DOWN THE SPEED OF FASHION. She mentions on each piece the time taken to produce the garment. Ranging from 32 hours to 1080 hours , each piece shows the exquisite and detailed work gone into the collection. Her previous collections have not been too simple either.
