US Denim Imports From ASEAN Countries | 2015-17

ASEAN region comprises countries like Brunei, Burma(Myanmar), Cambodia , Indonesia , Laos,  Malaysia, Philippines , Singapore and Thailand . These countries have been getting important in the denim world . Lets see what denim apparel they are exporting to US and at what prices .In this report,  we have done the detailed analysis of import of denim , which includes denim Apparel for both men and women , into USA from ASEAN for the year 2015 upto second quarter of 2017.

1. Imports of All Denim

The imports of all denim from ASEAN to USA for the  first six months of 2017  was 18.90 million pcs and if the same trend is followed then the imports are likely to be about  38 million pcs at the end of the year 2017 with an expected  increase of about 24 % over last year figures. Looking at the imports for the previous years , in the year 2015, the total denim imports  was 48.74 million pcs with an average price(USD/PC) of 8.2, which saw a fall of about 38 % in the year 2016 . The early trends for the first six months looks positive but even if the same trend continues , it looks difficult to surpass the export figure of year 2015 which was a very good year.

2. Men’s / Boys Jeans

Bifurcating the imports of all denims into both men and women, we observe that the imports of women jeans is relatively more than the men’s jeans for the consecutive three years from 2015 to upto second quarter of 2017 . So far as the import of only men’s jeans is concerned , 4.57 million pcs of denim apparels exported to USA in the first six month of 2017. If it  the export follows the existing trends , it might be possible to reach at the level of exports as it was for the year 2016. The average price for the year 2017 is marginally higher than the average price of 2016 . In the year 2016 , it was USD 8.6/PC which increased by 20 cents and reached to USD8.8/PC in the year 2017 .

3 Women’s / Girls Jeans

So far as the import of women jeans is concerned , 13.93 million pcs of denim apparels exported to USA in the first six month of 2017. If the export follows the existing trends , it might be possible to surpass the level of exports as it was for the year 2016. In the year 2017 , the average price is  USD 8.00 /PC which is a little more that what it was in year 2015 & 2016 .

On the whole, ASEAN exports more women jeans than men’s. This has generally been the trend of exports in these countries as well as in China . The major exporters from the countries mentioned above are Cambodia , Indonesia and Laos. We hope that we will see increased exports in coming years from this region !
