    Faustine Steinmetz Collaborates With Diesel

London based designer – Faustine Steinmetz recently collaborated with  Diesel and launched its capsule collection featuring surreal denim pieces . Recently, Diesel’s artistic director- Nicola Formichetti, introduced the Diesel Denim Lab to enable the young designers to experiment and push the limits of their understanding of fashion . Diesel identified Steinmetz for the collaboration and this resulted into a capsule collection which came out after the efforts put into Denim Lab of Diesel .

The collection is filled with surrealist, mesh-denim combines. The remaining fabric seems magically suspended in midair. The full collection is now available for the sale on the official website of Diesel . This is visible in some of the styles — especially ones where 3-D design techniques are applied to flatter the body and strategically placed seams and pockets creates the illusion of a more narrow and slender figure. • Seamless Denim Quilted Jacket By Santoni And Tencel

Seamless Denim Quilted Jacket By Santoni And Tencel

Santoni, a leading Italian manufacturer of a wide range of circular knitting machines and  co-operates with Lenzing Fibres, a producer of Tencel branded fibre, in a new denim project.

The previous co-operation with Lenzing focused on the knitting of a new one-piece denim garment that would fit the modern rapidly evolving lifestyle. “This just-in- time semi-finished garment was tailored for the ever fast-changing fashion world. The idea of innovative knit denim as a contrast to the traditional woven denim fabric highlights the product concept as it combines denim’s soul with sportswear’s athleisure performance features,” the company explains.

    Mec-Mor CMP knitting machine

The new project concerns the knitting of an innovative denim double-face quilted fabric produced by Santoni’s double jersey circular knitting machine, the Mec-mor CMP, and Lenzing’s Tencel fibre. The Mec-Mor CMP, with open variable panel (Variatex technology) is a circular knitted garment length machine complete with rib border separation.

    Denim Quilted Jacket | Denimsandjeans.com

With unique finished looks, one single machine can produce all sizes without wastages, thanks to the variable width of the fabric panels that allows the exact number of working needles to be selected for the required size of product.

The totally reversible quilted jacket knitted on the Mec-Mor machine is Seamless . The border is not sewn as it is integrated into the fabric panel, as well as incorporating the pockets. It is a double-faced jacket that can have various patterns and logos directly knitted into it by the machine. These designs have a very high resolution thanks to the fine inherent GG 20 characteristics.

    Tencel fibre

Tencel is the sustainable lyocell fibre derived from wood pulp. According to the manufacturer, only wood from certified or controlled sources is used to make Tencel using a closed loop production system. This fibre production process is eco-friendly and has received numerous certifications and awards including the European Award for the Environment and Oeko-Tex.

    Seamless denim quilted jacket

The new totally-reversible seamless denim quilted jacket produced on the Santoni machine aims to provide greater comfort due to its dedicated areas of increased fit and well-being as determined by the use of embedded indigo Tencel fibre and elastomers to give higher elasticity and flexibility.

The multi-layered seamless knitted panel consists of three layers of different yarns with a reverse use. The resulting quilting effect is obtained directly on the machine by specific stitches that hold the two layers of fabric, together this produces a thickness in the fabric, so creating a quilting effect which increases the profile of the relief when compared to the rest of the fabric, giving a unique change in its texture.

    Denim Quilted Jacket | Denimsandjeans.com

Extra decorative patterns may be added to the surface to create unlimited 3D technical effects and design. Separate reinforced points can be inserted as well. Each side of the panel can be the front layer, allowing for either an active or a smart-classical denim jean look.

     Santoni

Santoni was founded in 1919 as the first Italian socks machine manufacturer. In 1988, the company was acquired by the prestigious Lonati Group, world leader in the production of socks and pantyhose machines. Since then the company has become synonymous with the “Seamless” phenomenon, becoming itself the world leader in the production of electronic knitting machines for garments without seams.

    Denim Quilted Jacket | Denimsandjeans.com

Today Santoni meets 97% of the worldwide demand for seamless machines, which are used in various sectors of the garment industry including underwear, sportswear, beachwear, outerwear and medical garments. See more info here  .

PRPS Mud Smeared Jeans At Nordstrom Create Controversy !

Nordstrom started to sell the innovative PRPS muddy jeans for $425 . PRPS is a great brand and they come out with some very cool washes. However, Nordstrom was not ready for the kind of  adverse reaction on the social media.

    Muddy Jeans Nordstorm

Description on Nordstrom: Heavily distressed medium-blue denim jeans in a comfortable straight-leg fit embody rugged, Americana workwear that’s seen some hard-working action with a crackled, caked-on muddy coating that shows you’re not afraid to get down and dirty.

Some reactions on Twitter and other social media were harsh and very

    twitter

Even the mainstream media including Forbes, NYtimes and others have been critical and Nordstrom is drawing jeers for this product.

But to be honest , the product itself does not seem to be a problem. In fact , it is quite innovative. Speaking from strictly development perspective, it is actually a piece of washing art. The problem seems to be the pricing. At $425 and with connotations of a worker jeans, the reaction has been very adverse. Another aspect has been the very striking looks of the jeans / jackets where the mud looks very “In your face”.

The controversy might , however, hurt Nordstrom, which is already under pressure on various quarters. For the rest of us in the denim industry, we think the looks must be enjoyed and analysed for further creativity !

Need Supply 1996 Denim Vintage Collection

Before Need Supply Co., they were Blues—a tiny retail shop in Richmond, Virginia stocked with 300 pairs of vintage jeans and a dream bigger than their square footage. “I’m drawn to the idealism and innocence of the beginning. That youthful sense of discovery so synonymous with hunting for the perfect pair of vintage jeans, before the internet, before you knew what you were getting into.” — Creative Director Gabriel Ricioppo

  • Denim Styles Which Are Cool For UK Consumers

Denim Styles Which Are Cool For UK Consumers

A report on Drapers analyses the proportion of fashion retailers’ style ranges and breaks down them into different styles they are carrying in Feb 2017 vs  those in Feb 2016.

The graph below shows the breakup of different styles stocked by different retailers.

    Women's Jeans Stocked

As can be clearly seen from the graph, Skinny jeans continues to dominate the women’s jeans stocked and hence sold. High waisted jeans , catching up on the rising trend in last 2 years, seem to be the distant second style in vogue. Slim fits , straight legs are other styles which may be considered to be slightly in demand. The report also mentions about hem details or cropped flare silhouette are in fashion whereas many brands like Citizens, J Brand, Paige etc offering released Hem Styles.

Also its interesting to look at the kind of styles Men are demanding and retailers are offering.

    Mens Jeans Stocked

Skinny jeans, which were a distant runner a couple of years ago are fast catching up with Slim fits and the most popular Straight legs seem to be loosing the race against these two in the latest fashion race !.

Market in UK seems to be driven by volume brands priced below GBP 60 with retailers like River Island and Top Man dominating the scene whereas the above GBP 100 range is clearly held by Diesel and other fashion brands like Replay.

In the two charts from the report, the % of women and men’s jeans details can be seen changing in last one year with maximum change in Men’s jeans details coming up with stonewashes and in Womens’ jeans Raw hem getting more important.
