    Another 100% ? Recycled Jeans By Tommy Jeans

    Developed with a vintage inspiration and earth-conscious mission, Tommy Introduces another 100% recycled denim styles with recycled elastane. Last year also they came out with a sustainable collection , but this one seems a step ahead of that.

    This 100% recycled collection is a sampling of or most popular styles and has been styled from recycled cotton in a vintage wash. The collection pulls out the evergreen classic Tommy Jeans styles from the archive of nostalgia and redesigned with added sustainable flavor of 100% recycled cotton, thread and sustainable trims. Apart from these, the rivets are made from the recylced metal trimmings and the patches are from 100% recycled polyester.

    “The innovative part of the fabrics we are using for this capsule consists in their mechanical recycling process and spinning process. This way we can achieve 100% cotton recycled fiber for the first time in the history without using any blend fiber, while keeping the same mechanical properties as a virgin cotton fabric,” says Nicolas Prophte, vice-president of Global Denim Center Excellence PVH Corp.

    Tommy Jeans has also claimed that this entire collection consumed less water, less energy and low impact finishing techniques compared to any of their previous collections and hence this is the most sustainable denim collection that they ever produced.

    The collection is available online for sale and the price ranges between $79-129.

    Diesel has recently announced – DIESEL UPCYCLING FOR, a new series of collections , which focus on a commitment to a more sustainable future through upcycling in production and adapting to a changing world. According to Diesel , the word UPCYCLING refers to the process of ‘Transforming Existing Products’ , Waste Material, and Deadstock into new products, while reducing the consumption of raw materials and decreasing the energy use , air and water pollution , and greenhouse gas emission. Essentially , it is the creation of something new by using what they already have . However, it seems the upcycled products are more expensive than the regular ones – of course, more effort is required to create them.

    Here are some of our favorite picks from the collection.

    This parka is crafted from strips of existing denim, cut and sewn together to create a totally new fabric. The jacket is enriched with a tonal band on the front and contrasting colored details under the sleeves.

    The Toxic Avenger : Denim Capsule By Naked & Famous

    Naked & Famous has come up with funky new pieces this season.The pop-art styled logo of the brand depicted by “ideal blond” represents  a mass culture. As per their website, they aim to poke fun at “Hollywood”and “Glamour” brands that sell jeans for $300 and up solely because they are celebrity endorsed, and not because they are higher quality. The brand sets itself apart by using satire to promote some high quality denims !

    The brand has collaborated with Troma Entertainment with the theme of an 80s B-movie satirical superhero franchise – The Avenger – to launch the latest collection with comic style art and cartoons highlighted on the denim.

    The collection consists of the Trucker Jacket and Deformed Denim. The cartoons and logos look beautifully trendy on denim . The denim fabric has been constructed in three different twills :  left-hand twill,  right-hand twill, and a broken twill. The yarn has been used with a desire to give the denim a texture that represents the The Toxic Avenger’s skin. The toxic-green tinted interior yarns serve to transform the wearer into a “doer of good, and brutal mauler of evil” according to the brand. The scenes from the comic book are screen printed on the pink colored pocket bags. “ I’ve been Tromatised ” embriodery looks very attractive on the green coloured seal of The Toxic Avenger on the rear chenille patch of the denim jacket. Not only the unique patterns and textures, the entire collection is made from organic cotton.

It will also feature signature design details including a black biodegradable patch, a tonal Lazy S on back pockets and recycled hardware. Introduced for Spring Preview ’20 (SP20), Indigood Denim features on two different washes on the popular slim tapered Luke fit men’s jean.

    Back to Nature

    The Back to Nature Innovation features pieces that are completely biodegradable. Made using entirely compostable linen-cotton yarns, and no rivets, when the garment is no longer needed, the buttons can be unscrewed for re-use and the rest can be thrown into the compost, where it will biodegrade and return to the Earth. Featured in Back to Nature are the men’s iconic Rider Jacket and Rider jeans in a rigid ecru denim. For women an elongated and belted version of the Rider Jacket features alongside wide leg jeans in rigid ecru denim.

    Lee Jeans introduces For A World That Works™ Initiative

    Sustainable Selvage

    Sustainable Selvage is an ongoing collaboration with Italian denim mill Candiani. The result is a series of jeans created using less energy, water and chemicals. Sustainable production and finishing processes include the use of Kitotex dyeing, derived from the food waste industry, Indigo Juice dyeing – a more superficial yarn dye; and mineral dyeing, using the N-Denim nitrogen dye and Earthcolours dye, which comes from unused natural waste. Sustainable laundry treatments include lasering that does not use chemicals, E-Flow which uses less chemicals and water, and PP spray (used for creating worn effects) has been replaced with an eco-friendly bleaching additive.

    Lee Jeans introduces For A World That Works™ InitiativeIn line with the ‘For a World that Works™’ initiative, Lee Jeans has joined the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Jeans Redesign Guidelines, which set out minimum requirements on garment durability, material health, recyclability and traceability. Using the Jeans Redesign Guidelines as a base framework, Lee is creating a portfolio-level scorecard to measure the sustainability performance of all products. Over the next year, this global tool will empower Lee designers to be at the forefront of change, allowing them to view how Lee’s entire product line is progressing on sustainability attributes.     In an effort to reposition its denim offering and make it more appealing to the millenials, Marks & Spencer featured “Go jumpers” and “Go pyjamas” of House of Pain’s Jump Around  during Christmas . For the Spring Marks & Spencer  have launched their  new campaign, “Start a denim love affair“. This is the third marketing campaign for M&S Denim in less than a year but with double the marketing investment and double the buy of product to support the addition of a TV ad. To synchronize the ad with Valentine’s Day and to reinforce the message around encouraging people to fall in love with denim, M&S will display the TV ad in love-themed shows including Love it or List it, Love Island and First Dates. Its clear that M&S wants to be perceived as a more younger brand that it is now !

    The TV ad, created by ODD, features 15 dancers showing off M&S’s best denim products to Donna Summers’s ‘I Feel Love’. M&S says it follows strong customer feedback that the dancing in its ‘Go Jumpers‘ Christmas campaign helped customers engage with the brand.

    “Denim is a real killer category for us and that means it should be backed with a killer marketing campaign,” says M&S’s clothing and home marketing director, Nathan Ansell. He also added  that the choice of track was influenced by the campaign’s release shortly before Valentine’s Day.

    Start a denim love affair”  – aims to communicate a range of factors, because it was also a matter of fact that the consumers often get stuck with a single retailer for jeans, due to the difficulty of finding a fit they like. Ansell said they have also taken care of the major factors in their collections including the retailer’s competitive prices, its sustainability credentials, which include the majority of its cotton being certified by the Better Cotton Initiative, and the product range, including its “magic jean”, made with bi-stretch denim that has a sculpting effect.

    It is designed to spotlight the progress and strength of M&S’s denim business focusing on style, fit and value.     As part of its Spring denim campaign M&S will also launch its ‘Magic Jeans’ in womenswear – high waisted skinny’s that feature flattering tummy technology, bi-stretch denim for superior comfort and a gap-proof waist band. They’ll be one of several pairs of jeans highlighted by the campaign which will put a strong focus on the still most popular cut – skinny jeans.
