AW18 Collection: Indigo Manor By DENHAM

Dutch Premium Denim Brand- DENHAM has recently unveiled its AW18 Collection which is inspired by Jason Denham’s own heritage in the Northern English countryside, from the steel foundries of Sheffield to the rolling Yorkshire Moors. Designs fuse classic workwear references with indigo fabrics and technical details. They channel the spirit of British country pursuits — think hunting and hiking at historic manor estates — while reflecting DENHAM’s signature utilitarian aesthetic.

The collection features several types of prints which are inspired by the work of William Morris, an iconic textile designer and key influencer  in the English “Arts and Crafts Movement” of the late 19th century. Graphics combine ornamental floral motifs with playful brushstrokes and Japanese influences, for a true reflection of DENHAM’s  “East meets West” mantra. The autumnal color palette is filled with rich tones like merlot, gold, burnt caramel and deep seaweed.

Crop Loose Carrot Fit Jeans – GRS

Golden Rivet Seoul (GRS): Cut from 12oz, comfort stretch denim with a vintage wash, subtle tint, blanket stitch patches and heavy repairs. The style features golden rivets; they’re a seal of premium quality and are used only on denim made by Candiani, the renowned Italian mill. Candiani is known worldwide for its innovative, sustainable approach to denim manufacturing. The Crop has a dropped crotch with a looser fit at the seat, a carrot fit through the thigh, and a straight fit through the knee. It has a cropped hem that’s designed to be worn rolled-up, above your ankle.

    Ransack Indigo Shirt – TIS

Textured Indigo Shirting (TIS): Classic indigo that’s been specially rinsed for extra softness. The Ransack Indigo Shirt was inspired by a selection of indigo work shirts found in the DENHAM Garment Library, a collection of 1,500 pieces used to inspire design team of DENHAM. It’s designed to be worn as an overshirt, with a jacket-style collar, larger buttons and side pockets. Cut a little bigger for a slight dropped shoulder look, this shirt utilises the reverse side of the fabric in panels on the body and arms. The style puts a modern spin on the traditional aesthetic.

    Pursuit Top – CTD

Cotton Tencel Denim (CTD): A supple, lightweight fabric that moves with your body and gives off a subtle sheen. The Pursuit Top is crafted from a cotton tencel denim for supreme softness and wearability. It’s been dyed in a rich shade of indigo and finished with an authentic look. The design team included tonal elements like grosgrain detailing and an exposed zipper to add unique texture.  The flattering drape of the tencel fabric, together with the rounded neckline and dramatic trumpet sleeves, create a playful and feminine piece that’s a step up from a simple tee on a night out.

    Adventure Dress – SIT

Soft Indigo Tencel (SIT): A supple, lightweight fabric that moves with your body and gives off a subtle sheen. This dress has been crafted from a super feminine, indigo tencel fabric with their seasonal petal ditsy print. The print takes inspiration from Japanese calligraphy art, and the British rose. The rose’s petal is created with an organic, minimal brush stroke, and the petals are repeated in an abstract design for relaxed wearability.
The tencel ensures beautiful drape on the body, while the addition of a fabric belt allows extra definition at the waist . The silhouette was inspired by a vintage piece found in the DENHAM Garment Library.

Tonello Denim Gallery Comes To Bangalore At Denimsandjeans

Tonello brings their “Denim Gallery” to Denimsandjeans India  show at Bangalore on August 1-2. With Denim Gallery Tonello brings 10 creative people together to discover new visions and interpretations of reality.Denim Gallery is a bona fide display of “dreams and visions of reality”, as told by 10 Designers from around the world who have used Denim as their canvas for painting, staining, and assaulting, in order to express themselves with artistic languages, materials, and concepts. The installation will be one of the important attractions at the show specially for washing nerds !

Grace Warland, Matias Sandoval, Serena Conti, Su Kim and Jon Rouleau, Mika Mitarai, Juan Manuel Gomez, Ilinca Trif, Stefan Vella, and Greta Giannini: these are the names of the artists-designers who have tried to answer, very personally and openly, a deceptively simple question: what is reality for you? The works, of course, have been made of denim and have been realized by Tonello in real and unique pieces. The Jeans have been made using the full potential of Tonello technologies: from Laser Blaze to ECOfree, from Bohemia to NoStone®, from Ecospray Robot to Core.

Ecology and nature. Fears for an upcoming apocalypse. Cosmological conceptions of the human beings. Investigations of abstract and primordial artistic languages. Contrasts between the natural elements for all manners of living and enjoying life (including excitement). A interweaving of different realities: the past, memories and wars. Realities like slavery that we try to break free from with the force of imagination and our ability to continue trying new escape routes. The bright lights and accelerated times of modern cities. These are the creative ideas that designers have put on canvas, or, rather, “on Denim”.

With the Denim Gallery project, Tonello wanted to elevate Jeans as a leader able to interpret its time in a thousand directions. Art and fashion, painting and performance, design and craft have fused into fascinating, mysterious, and yet somehow “talking” items, because they are absolutely original, unrepeatable, contemporary.

It’s a date in Bangalore, then, to discover this artistic proposal desired by Tonello, less and less a maker of just “machines”, and more and more a reality where technology and creativity meet.
    In short, ever more “Inspiring”.

Pop Culture And Denim – Dr. Dilek Erik

“They have been worn by soldiers and protesters, headbangers and superstars, vagrants and Presidents. They have been worn on campus and in prison, on horses and Harleys, to the opera and the mosh pit. They are versatile and stylish.
-James Sullivan, Journalist says about Jeans

“Pop culture- a set of beliefs and objects that are dominant in a society at a given point in time.”

In the recently held 3rd Edition of Denimsandjeans Show at Vietnam, the reputed denim consultant Dr Dilek Erik from Turkey made a special presentation about how Pop Culture affected the growth of denim industry globally. Denim & Durability
➤ The choice of miners, railroad workers, farmers, ranchers and many other blue collared workers
➤ Denim was chosen by working class, because; it was durable, not easy to tear, Navy color concealpotential dirt or grease; helping them to appear cleaner

    Untitled-3

    6

➤ Until the mid 1900, denim continued to be popular among the working class
➤ Jeans hardly captured the attention of the world – they took nearly a century to go from pants to center fashion statement of counter culture

    7

    Denim & Western

    15

    16

    17

➤ In the mid-Fifties, rock&roll was not only a musical revolution but a social and generational uprising and unpredictable scope
➤ The white and black underclass of music fans and performers was finding more and more common ground with roc&roll
➤ Teenagers were developing their own codes of in-group complicity, expressed in clothes andincreasingly in their own language.
➤ Rock’n Roll turned out to have been the cultural vanguard of movement toward racial, social and sexual equity.

    18
➤ The lyrics of rock and roll songs tried to break boundaries and express emotions that people were actually feeling but had not talked about.
➤ Rock’n Roll gave teenagers a sense of belonging, even when they were alone..

    19

    20

    Denim  & Human Rights
    Imagine no possessions
    I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
    A brotherhood of man
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world…
    You may say I’m dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
An the world will live as one
          John Lennon

    21

➤ In 1960s, a new generation felt in love with denim
➤ Kids in the free-loving 60’s embraced denim as a pallet for individuality
➤ Styles loosened up and embroidery, paint, patch work or any kind of hand-made psychedelic design cemented denim’s new legacy as the contemporary garment of rebellion
➤ As the first denim stores opened in Europe during the 60’s, American blue jeans were slowly being illegal into Communist bloc countries, inspiring a different kind of antiauthoritarian Rolling Stones sentiment

    22

➤ Sixties songwriting moves beyond pop love songs and begins to include social consciousness and political statements.
    ➤ Growing of hippie culture
➤ In late sixties outdoor rock music festivals begin.
➤ In the summer of 1969, the Woodstock Music and Art Fair draws 500.000 people to a three day concert in New York

    23

    24

➤ In the Woodstock festival, thousands of denim wearing hippies attended and clothing companies launched special editions for the festival

    26
➤ By the end of the 1960’s, there were rock stars and there were celebrities. It was during this time that Mick Jagger invented the concept of the rock star/ celebrity hybrid.
➤ Jagger made rock cool, sexy and dangerous.

    27

    28

➤ The popular culture of the 1980s reflected the period of political conservatism.
➤ The symbol of the decade was the “yuppie”: a baby boomer with college education, a wellpaying job and expensive taste.
➤ They were, more concerned with making money and buying consumer goods than their parents and grandparents had been.

    29

➤ American television owners got cable service- and the most revolutionary cable network of all was MTV
➤ The music videos made megastars
➤ MTV also influenced fashion: People across the country (and around the world) did their best to copy the hairstyles and fashions they saw in music videos. Michael

    30

    31

➤ MTV also became a forum for those who went against the line or were left out of the yuppie ideal.
➤ Rap artists and heavy metal acts also captured the sense of discomfort among young people
➤ Even as Reagan maintained his popularity, popular culture continued to be an arena for dissatisfaction throughout the 1980s

    32

    33

➤ Generation Y, “The Next Great Generation”, Millennials are “digital natives”, having never known a world without personal technology
    ➤ Educated, involved and CONNECTED.
➤ Culture is impact technology and technology is impacting culture.
➤ These young adults share similar life experiences, musical tastes, food, and entertainment, and can even talk about favorite sports teams, movie stars and multinational brands

    34

➤ Rise of the Fast Fashion: Affordable clothing on the latest high fashion designs.
➤ With its low cost appeal driven by trends straight off the runway, fast fashion was a significant factor in the fashion industry’s growth.
➤ This trend allowed shoppers to own designers items at lower prices, also allowing the acceptance and production of copycat styles.

    35

➤ Since 2004, H&M have been inviting top fashion designers to collaborate with them on their seasonal clothing line
➤ We can see from these collaborations that the product design is only helped by the input of someone who knows where fashion trends are headed, by using invaluable resources, materials and customer base held by the H&M brand.

    36

    37

    38

    39

➤ Digital Music: The millennial generation listens to 75,1% more music on a daily basis than baby boomers.
➤ They turn their ears and attention to streaming, with many of those polled opting for on-demand options.
➤ Millennials have short attention spans and move on to the next new thing. If a song is a month old, it’s ancient, they don’t want to hear it anymore, they want  something new and they want it
    now

    40

➤ Beyonce, released her “secret album” at the end of 2013 and did zero promotion, not even teasers (14 songs, 17 videos, just on iTunes)
➤ She completely used the strength of social media and word of mouth
➤ Taylor Swift just had to tweet that her new video is out and it’s the most watched thing that day on YouTube

  • Amazon Invests USD 70 Million In AI To Give A New Sense Of Shopping To Its Users

Amazon Invests USD 70 Million In AI To Give A New Sense Of Shopping To Its Users

Amazon , one of the world’s largest E-commerce company , recently announced the acquisition of BODY LABS – a New York-based startup that specializes in 3D body scanning and modeling software for fashion and gaming applications for an undisclosed consideration. According to sources , the deal has been signed for about $70 million . Founded in 2013 at Manhattan , Body Labs collects, digitizes, and organizes data and information related to human body shape, pose, and motion. The company then transform the human body into a digital platform which is like a prototype and based on that the end products are designed, produced, bought, and sold. This whole 3D body modeling mechanism will act as an outfit recommendation engine which will enable the end user to understand the right cloths and fittings according to the body shape . The idea seems very revolutionary as it will act as an digital change room and specifically as a mirror which tells you what suits you and what doesn’t with least consumption of time .  . Body Labs works within the ambit of ‘SOMA’ technology  which uses artificial intelligence, trained using body data and computer vision, to enable businesses and developers to accurately understand both 3D human motion and shape from any input.

    HOW DOES THIS WORK

The technology basically recognizes the shape of body and motions in the best possible way . The AI first recognizes the shape and motion accurately with all the maximum possibility including movements like dancing , walking, bending and many such similar motions covering  all  permutation of motions in order to give the most accurate results to the end users .

    UNDERSTANDING THE PROCESS

In this image below , a woman in tight fitting clothing is 3D scanned. She breathed in and then breathed out over that cycle , the projected measurements changed by 3 centimeters . After this , the researchers took the photos ( see next ) around the office and the AI analyse every pixel in the photo and estimated her body shape uniquely and then they computed upto 130 measurements on that photo and compared those to her 3D Skin . The  same procedure on over 100 people . From this benchmark , they came to know that they had a mean absolute error of under two centimeters , ‘we breathe in as we breathe on the body shape changes , our goal is to enable software know the shape of every single one of their customers today” as per the Body Labs. About 23% of all clothing purchased gets returned due to fit issue and Amazon wants to become the platform where right fit can be arranged for the customers in one go so that returns are minimal.

HOW TO FIND SUITABLE FIT FOR BODY

Shopping is becoming more social . We are shopping on our phones or in stores , we are shopping with our phones taking pictures and sending them to friends for a second opinion instead of looking at catalogues for inspiration people are turning to social media channels like instagram where they flip through hundreds or thousands with pretty pictures to get style inspiration and while there are tons and tons of beautiful images on very diverse people . It is very hard to find someone who’s like you , at Body labs the company has developed artificial intelligence to understand human body shape from everyday photos, this means the type of photo you would see in a typical outfit of the day Instagram post .

    • Amazon is  developing a social platform where they can connect people with similar body shapes so that they could be able to get inspired by people like them through Instagram or social media channels .
    • They built a demo that enables the user to upload a photo and connect to their shape doppelgangers on Instagram .
    • They will get suggestions with their identical body shapes which will be very helpful to make a good choice.
    • As more people will start using this , this will create a community where users can share reviews about the products and fittings which is again a very helpful tool for the end users.
    • This shape based shopping will have a huge impact on commerce from being able to understand how someone likes you reviewed a product or being able to see user-generated content by your own little fit community .

    OVERALL RESULTS

Shape and Shopping , Amazon Bets USD 70 Million To Give A New Sense Of Shopping To Its Users | Denimsandjeans.com

3 Amazon is on way to become Global Fashion Leader

In past few years , Amazon has  innovated which helped in creation of   house apparel lines, hardware like the Echo look specifically for fashion, launching its own clothing subscription service , and many more . The company has been trying to go a step ahead so that a larger consumer base can be catered in the upcoming years and this is why the company is specially focusing on new innovations and technology which ultimately results in greater convenience for the consumers. The scale of aggression in terms of investment can be understood if we realize that Amazon launched nine new fashion brands in 2017 and 17 since last year. It’s also released the Echo Look, a device that gives fashion recommendations, and a new service called Amazon Wardrobe that lets Prime members try on clothes before purchasing.

    a. More Focus On SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

The biggest challenge for the e-retailers is to make deliveries as quick as possible . The quickest one leads the segment in the long run as a delay in the delivery may cause cancellation of order due to various reasons including customer’s instant change in the taste . The company is heavily investing to manage the logistics by own to avoid delays .Amazon spends billions of dollars each quarter on shipping, and those costs are rising as the company expands to deliver everything from toilet paper to TVs to customers in two days or less. To save money over the past year, Amazon has been seeking to take over more shipping duties from the likes of UPS and FedEx by leasing trucks, planes, and ships. The company is even testing drones to supplement its doorstep deliveries.

    b. Doubling down on artificial intelligence and Alexa:

Another project which is being in talks is ALEXA . Either its Google or Apple , both have invested and have been investing heavily to strengthen their Artificial Intelligence so the Amazon has to . Amazon is betting big on its Alexa investment, highlighted by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos saying recently that 1,000 employees are working on the service. And his company is still hiring. You can expect Amazon to start making more deals to get Alexa into non-Amazon devices likes its recently announced partnership with GE to put Alexa in smart lamps.

    c.India:

Amazon continues to invest in in India, where it said earlier this year it would spend another $3 billion to expand its services. If so, it’s total investment in the region would reach $5 billion. In 2016, Amazon introduced its Prime membership service in India, hoping to repeat the success it has had with it in the U.S. and elsewhere. Amazon has also said that it would add Prime Video to its subscription package, which would give Indian consumers access to more original content featuring Indian filmmakers and actors.

Fashion retailers globally need to be really worried about the way Amazon is going. If Amazon is successful in using Artificial Intelligence to give a much better clothing offerings to the customers, there might be a big shift to Amazon Online Apparel shopping both from Brick and Mortar retailers as well as other online retailers. Denim – where fit has always been a big challenge , might be an interesting product where Amazon might concentrate. If it manages to offer real good fits to the customers, the game is over for many retailers of jeans. Challenging times are ahead and only those invest in innovative solutions for the customers will survive in the near future !

Revived Pinto Denim From Cone | Brought By 3X1

3X1, the New York City-based custom denim atelier, has come launched a revived PINTO Denim  made from CONE DENIM Fabrics. For those who do not know about Cone Denim , need to be reminded that in 1969  Cone Denim warehouse was flooded and damaged. To recover the damaged fabric, Cone Denim decided to use a  bleach bath on the fabric to hide the damaged visuals. The final fabric that came out , surprisingly, had some great reactions after garments were made from them and made PINTO DENIM famous and an interesting denim trend.

The current collection is made from 100% cotton selvage denim woven at Cone’s White Oak Mill. The special Pinto finishing process is applied in fabric form before the garments are cut and sewn, guaranteeing each and every garment comes out truly unique.

    How Retailers Design Their Collections

Life styles are changing and they have been changing very quickly and therefore its very important to keep a close eyes on the latest trends . How do the retailers get to know about the latest trends ? The answer lies with the Top Designers whose collections have the ingredients of the latest lifestyles and trends. The designers show their collections in Fashion Weeks (London, New York, Milan, Paris, Tokyo) and retailers follow them very closely to get inspiration from these designers. They immediately imitate or get inspired from the styles and create collections based on the same. Below are some examples as to how the retailers have copied the latest trends and put them at their stores .

A Guide For Denim Producers To Be A Successful

    Most of the garment companies start business as copiers. Retails bring the styles, they copy it. In order to do that producers need to be;

    1. Fast
    2. Cheap
    3. Good Copier
    4. Have big production quantities
    5. Have high quality and production standards
    6. Open to be supervised and controlled

    In years, successful producers realize that, in order to get the control of the business and to have better prices they need to create their own collection. To achieve this goal they build up a team to;

    1. Follow the trends
    2. Work with designers
    3. Choose fabric, accessories
    4. Design the collection
    5. Present it to buyers

    By doing that:

    • Buyers start to come to producers not because they are cheap and fast but because they give them collection ideas and full package service
    • Buyers prefer these companies because they reduce their research / design cost
    • Retails need to be fast. When the producer brings the collection they don’t lose time to replace the order.

    Most of the producers who do their own collection, create their own brand after several years of experience. Because;

    1. They know the market
    2. They follow the trends
    3. They know how to create a successful collection
    4. They already have their design team
    5. They buy fabric, accessories etc. in big quantities with good price
    6. They have big production capacities

The only thing they need to learn is “branding strategy and marketing”

Some successful denim garment producers in Turkey and their worldwide brands

    Brands having difficulties in market, because;

    1. European economy, demography and high costs effects the brands
    2. Retailers have very strong denim collections and selling much less price than brands.
    3. While retailers are changing their collection  every month, brands can do it only 2-4 times in year
    4. Brands spend a lot of money to research and development

What denim brands want from a producer

Every brand has their own brand identity and they have to be unique in their league. Producers have to know what “that brand” wants as the brands don’t like to see everything. They have to believe that you understand their needs and prepare your collection accordingly. They have to believe that you are on the same page with them and You have to show them right fabric, right style with right accessories. They don’t copy your style but if you can show them what they are looking for they prefer you.Producers needs to be ready for research and development. Brands wants to work with producers as a partner and they are much more loyal than the retailers . Perfect quality, good price and confidentiality is must. They have to believe that nobody can see and copy their collection and in order to meet these demands, producers need to make a good market research to understand the brand , follow trends closely, follow the new production techniques, design the most suitable collection for each brand and have perfect quality and certification.

How you can follow the trends with minimum cost?
