Starting the analysis with the analyzing the export trends of two big giant denim exporters – Bangladesh and China . Looking at the Men’s Denim Category , In the year 2000 ,China exported merely 1.13 million Pcs against the whopping export of 11.71 millions pcs by Bangladesh .  [private_special] After five years , China Surpassed Bangladesh with 44.63 million Pcs but the tragedy is that in 2015 years It was left miles behind Bangladesh. In 2015 Bangladesh exported 109.09 million pcs while China exported only 36.18 million pcs. The same trend continues in 2016 and Bangladesh is still way beyond China with 115.485 million pcs (estimated).

In the Women’s Denim Category China had been doing comparatively better before 2015 . But after 2015, there is a massive downfall in the export quantity.In 2005 the export quantity was 87.92 million pcs which dropped to 57.12 million pcs in 2015. However Bangladesh has been doing exceptionally well in both the category during these periods and is expected to do much better in the coming years.

Top 5 Denim Exporters To EU- 2000

In the year 2000, It was Hong Kong which was leading the charts in terms of export quantity of Men’s Jeans to EU with 62.24 million pcs in a year, Hong Kong was at the top followed by Turkey and Tunisia with 33.68 & 14.57 million pcs respectively. Other countries like Morocco and Bangladesh accounted for 10% and 8 % in the list .The average price is not so much relevant for the analysis as that period substantially run under quota system and prices were grossly understated or overstated.

It is ironic to note that women’s jeans were a small fraction of the quantity of men’s jeans. Eg while Men’s jeans exported by HK were 62 million pcs, the women’s jeans exported were only about 4 million pieces – not even 10% of men’s quantity ! . This clearly shows how skewed the markets were in favour of men’s jeans in that period.

Top 5 Denim Exporters To EU- 2005

The scenario changed in the year 2005 .Hong Kong was no more in the top five men’s denim exporters and China was the new country which grabbed the spot at the top with 44.63 million pcs at the average price of Euro 3.31/Pc followed by Bangladesh with 42.27 million pcs. Turkey was the third and accounted for 21% of share in the list however looking from the perspective of average prices, Turkey seemed pretty expensive with Euro 10.45/Pc. China is the least expensive and Tunisia is the most expensive in the list.

In the Women’s denim category , China again came to the top with the total export quantity of 87.92 million pcs while turkey came at the second place with 25.62 million pcs.  China with the average price of Euro 2.67/Pc found least expensive while Turkey with Euro 11.72/Pc stood for most expensive women’s denim exporter to EU for the year 2005. It is again noteworthy that the women jeans were still much cheaper than the men’s jeans.

Top 5 Denim Exporters To EU- 2015

The equations again changed in 2015 . Bangladesh became the new king in the EU Denim Industry and exported whopping 109.09 million pcs of Men’s Denim while China who had been ruling so far , dropped at number 3 with 36.18 million pcs and left with only 14% share to the list . Pakistan exported 63.96 million pcs at the average price of of Euro 7.93/Pc.  We can also see Turkey climbing up again and coming close to Chinese figures which is commendable.

Bangladesh is also at the top in the Women’s denim export to EU . Bangladesh exported 75.43 million pcs at an average price of Euro 6.11/Pc while China with 26 % share exported 57.12 million pcs at an average price of Euro 6.88/Pc. Turkey is still the most expensive exporter to EU with an average price of Euro 13.44/Pc and China is the least expensive with Euro 6.11/Pc. Cambodia is a new entrant in the list which exported 14.54 million pcs at an average price of Euro 6.52/Pc . Cambodia held 7% share in the list. The

Top 5 Denim Exporters To EU- 2016(August)

Year 2016 is reasonably good for the denim industry however still the Industry has not been much improved in terms of business. The global depression and adverse growth in demand as well as in purchasing capacity have been affecting the industry very badly. Industry is growing but if we look at the real growth rate , its not that good . In the year 2016 , till the month of August , Bangladesh Exported 76.99 million pcs of Men’s Jeans at an average price of Euro 6.28/Pc. In the Women’s Jeans category , Bangladesh exported 59.08 million pcs at an average price of Euro 6.02/Pc. China is going down year after year in the Men’s denim category however in the women’s denim category it still holds about 20 % share and stands at number two.

Total Export Of Denim To EU For The Year 2000,2005,2015 and 2016

Analyzing the figures from the year 2000 , we can see the that the market of denim expanded more than two times during these 16 years. The figures for Women’s Jeans is quite surprising , in 2000 the top five exporting countries exported merely 28.74 Million pcs however in 2016 , the export reached to 239.57 ( Estimated ) million pcs. Year 2017 will be very crucial and according to our prediction , the total denim export by top five countries to EU will be close to 520-538 million pcs .
