Top Indonesian Exporters Of Denim Apparel In June 2020

Indonesia has always been a strong player in the global apparel industry. However, with the rise of China in the last 2 decades, the country could not effectively compete with China and had not been doing so well with many garment units closing down and fabric companies also facing a lot of problems.
However, the US-China trade war has again given a window of opportunity to Indonesian companies to fight back and to re-establish themselves.

In this report, we check out how the Indonesian denim garment exporters are faring in different markets and which are the main buyers they are supplying to. It is heartening to note that even during this pandemic, Indonesian companies were able to export over 4.5 million pcs of denim around the world. We will see that further down in the report some very interesting facts about the exports from this country.

If we look at the above chart, we will find that the maximum shipments of denim in June 2020 from Indonesia went to the US – over 81%!  Japan is the second-largest market for Indonesian denim with about 10% of the share. Other markets are really small in comparison and not so important for Indonesian exporters. There is a good mix of high value and low-value buyers as we will see in this report.

ERATEX DJAJA TBK

Eratex has been the largest exporter of denim apparel by volume as it exported about 7,00,000 pcs of jeans. Its average price is also very high at $9.93 a piece which shows it has been exporting to quality customers.

Sai apparel industries has also exported decent volumes of denim at over 600,000pcs. Its average price has been much lower than Eratex at about $5.93 a piece. This is also because it is dealing with a different set of customers than Eratex. Its main customers include :

This company exported over 3.5 lac mtrs to different customers around the world at a low average price of US$4.75. The reason for this is that they deal with children’s garments and women garments which are comparatively lower priced. Besides, their customers include  :

The company exported over 5.5 lac pcs of denim apparel in June 2020 and it was mainly Men’s and Boy’s jeans. Though the company also exported some Girls and Infant apparel, its main exports were of Men’s and Boys’ jeans. The average price of exports was $6.20 and the key customers include :

If we look at the above chart, we will find that Eratex , Sai Apparel Industries, and Daehan Global dominate the export of denim from Indonesia with over 50% of total exports. The rest of the share is divided into a number of smaller companies. This shows that the export market is concentrated in the hands of a few exporters who are much larger than others and have a varied customer base.

Besides, we can also infer that the country is doing relatively well in this pandemic times with a decent export figure of over 4.5 million pcs of jeans/ denim apparel during this time.  The country depends a lot on the US market and though it also has exposure in Japan and some other nearby countries. But we need to continuously check how the exports from this country perform in the coming months and the effect of COVID will be much better visible.
