  • Bengaluru Hosts First Denimsandjeans India Show !

Bengaluru Hosts First Denimsandjeans India Show !

Bengaluru has been recently anointed as the most dynamic city in the world by JLL City Momentum Index. According to its fourth annual assessment, which tracks 42 indicators, India’s technology hub, and the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka, is strides ahead of its rivals in terms of the speed of progress in property, economics and digital success. The index is intended to “identify change and highlight which cities or metropolitan areas may be best at positioning themselves to compete in today’s ever-changing economic landscape,” Jeremy Kelly, research director at JLL, wrote in a blog post for the World Economic Forum.

Technology and innovation, and a city’s capacity to support it, drove Bangalore to the top spot this year . This dynamism of the city is not limited just to the IT sector , but the apparel sector also imbibes the associated dynamism as the city is host to a number of important apparel brands headquarters and a base for large jeans manufacturing units. Bengaluru brings together the skills of its expert labour and and technology base together to create a strong apparel industry both for export and domestic sector .

It is for this dual dynamism of the city which became the main reason for its being selected as the host city for  the first edition of Denimsandjeans India show on September 25& 26, 2017 .

    Denimsandjeans India Bengaluru

The Indian denim industry has been growing by leaps and bounds and with a capacity of 1.3 billion mts p.a , India is the second largest producer of denim fabrics worldwide. This huge capacity is catering not only to exports but also to a large and a growing market of denim jeans in India . With the current demand in the local market estimated to be about 500+ million denim garments, India has already overtaken US as the second largest denim market in the world after China . This gives India the dual advantage of being a large producer as well as a large market for finished products with an every growing and fashion conscious population . Besides, the Govt. of India’s recently announced Textile policy is further likely to give impetus to this industry .

Denimsandjeans seeks to create a platform for the industry to come together and grow further . We will provide further information on the show as a number of education , fashion and knowledge partners come together to make this event much more than a trade event .

3000 Year Old : Natural Indigo Dyeing Workshop From Rajasthan, India

Indigo dyeing has been done in countries like China, Indian Sub Continent and other parts of the world. However, it has been preserved well by some artisan families in Rajasthan .  Mr Lal from one such family in Rajasthan  which has been practicing natural indigo and other dyes for over 500 years gave workshop on the process of dyeing . As the workshop started, it turned out to be more interesting and exciting as there’s a magnetic lure to the process of indigo-dyeing by hand – looking at the fabric going from black to green to blue ! . Designers are at it nationally and globally, and retail players peddle hard-to-resist indigo collections. The magic stays until the fabric is put to wash. The color runs, and runs some more, with each wash. The workshop was also broadcasted live by the organizers and it received global response.

“The growing interest in indigenous hand-woven fabrics and techniques in recent years has brought indigo to the mainstream and this live workshop is our small effort in attaching this art to global denim industry “, said Mr Sandeep Agarwal.

The trend is getting stronger and the ORIGINALITY of denim is getting vogue again . The Vintage Recall not only talks about the Vintage era but it will also talk as to why we need to go back to our traditional method of production in order to achieve the Sustainability in an absolute term.

  • Bangladesh Fashion Students Stunned The Denim World With Their Designs At The 5th Edition Of Denimsandjeans.com

Bangladesh Fashion Students Stunned The Denim World With Their Designs At The 5th Edition Of Denimsandjeans.com

The 2nd Bangladesh Fashion Students’ Denim Design Contest successfully completed on 3rd March ,2016 at Hotel Radisson , Dhaka . This was an  initiative  to bring the talent of aspiring young designers of Bangladesh to the world. The students from multiple fashion universities including INIFD,  NIFT,SMUCT, BUFT etc. had participated in this competition .

The students were given the theme of ‘Hi – Fashion Denim’ – a trend seen since last year whereby denim has entered the echelons of haute couture clothing. The students were invited to create designs on this concept and provided guidelines and support for the same. We had also planned that the garments of the students would be show cased on the FASHIONIM RUNWAY and the students created the garments with the same in mind. The best 15 garments were also to be put up on voting at our Denimsandjeans show where all the visitors and exhibitors would vote on the designs.

We were frankly not expecting too many international level designs to come up and were expecting to do one single sequence with the garments at the runway. However, we were stumped to see a large number of highly creative designs coming up from the students and we had to finally create 3 sequences at the runway and that too with some difficulty as it was very difficult to reject most of them.

The whole process of students design competition was guided by  Ms Anna Troupe, a sustainable design lecturer and social entrepreneur based in Dhaka. Besides there were great contributions by others including Mr Tanveer, Mr Arief Labu, Mr Jamil and Mr Rubaiyat and our Bangladesh and India teams  – all of whom helped the students in different ways in reaching the right destination in terms of their designs.

The FASHIONIM runway was already very hot when the collections of Vicunha Textil and Envoy Textil came to the ramp. However, it was literally set on fire when the designs of students were visible on the confidently walking models.  The audience were very excited to see some great designs and applauded them all the way. The excited students – who were also present at the show – did not leave any chance of encouraging the models who wore their designs and electrified the atmosphere. Yes ! it was for the first time in the history of denim  fashion shows, the designs of young students of Bangladesh was showcased to an international audience including Diesel team from Italy and India. Each and Every design was sophisticated and jaw dropping as well as demiurgic and had received tons of appreciation from all the attendees of FASHIONIM. The theme ‘Denim In High Fashion’ which was well captured and well executed by the students .

The students started with Let’s have a look at the sketches the students created and converted them into wonderful designs.
