He explained how the super stretches are being used by the in-brands and the problems faced by producers in using these fabrics . He explained with the help of a big collection of jeans (which the audience was happy to go through) , how the varying degree of stretches used can affect the garment and can cause great style or create problems. 2nd Bangladesh Fashion Students’ Denim Design Contest

Taking forward  from our last show, we  organized for the second time a competition among the students of Fashion Universities of Bangladesh to bring out cool designs with the theme ‘ Hi-Fashion Denim ‘  . The students brought out some outstanding designs which made it very difficult for us to select the best ones !  In fact the task to select 15 best to go for voting by visitors at our show was very tough . Besides , for the first time, we brought these collections on the runway during our FASHIONIM event on 2nd March.  The designs  very much appreciated by international audience at the show.

The students were guided by Ms Anna Troupe – a social  and a teacher . They were also helped by , Mr Tanvir, Mr Arief Labu , Mr Jamil, Mr Rubaiyat and of course our own teams in Bangladesh  and India .

The best 15 designs were put to vote and  visitors and exhibitors to the show voted on same . In the collage below can be seen the sketches initially prepared by the students and later converted into fabulous garments.

Adding to the list of FIRSTS at our Denimsandjeans.com Bangladesh show was the LIVE VIDEO  presentation by Leopoldo Durante from Italy . Leopoldo, a veteran in denim industry who has worked with some of the most respected brands in the industry including Evisu, Versace, D&G, Martelli, Miss Sixty and a host of other names in his 25 years of career, agreed to present his vision for denims in AW17 directly from his office in Italy to our visitors and audience in Dhaka through a skype presentation on 10 x 8 feet wide screen at our show. It was an experiment by us and as in all new experiments there is an element of fear of something unexpected to happen. However, the presentation went through like a cakewalk and Leopoldo’s larger than life image on the screen , his booming Italian voice and his deep knowledge on denim impressed the audience very much. The presentation, which lasted over 30 minutes , enabled the audience to directly see what was Leopoldo’s vision of denim becoming in the Fall ‘17 .
We are giving here below the text of the presentation that he made along with some slides from his presentation. But the best part is to check out the video on this page where a part of his presentation is uploaded on YouTube here or just click on image below .

Actual text of Leopoldo’s Skype Presentation

I am a designer. I used to travel a lot around the world. I went to Los Angeles and New York, London, Berlin. I went to Tokyo. I live in Italy. We have three different continents with three different visions on indigo, denim and jeans. The US is a huge market. Europe is a great market. In Asia the denim market and production is concentrated in Japan. In the US brands are focused on celebrities denim. Europe is obsessed with designer denim. Asia is focused on vintage denim.

    Presentation : Denimsandjeans.com

In the US the market is focused on women’s wear. They have women as ambassadors. The market is not focused on quality but on celebrities who wear denim. And they call it premium. But I feel it’s not true. It’s not premium in the sense we call it. It is called premium because it’s worn by the wealthy. I would not call it jeans, I would call it pants. And this is ironical because the American people invented denim. But what they do is sell super stretch for women at astronomical prices. And it is not even denim. It is just a pair of pants.

US brands are focused on celebrities denim.US brands are focused on celebrities denim.

US brands are focused on celebrities denim.

Europe is obsessed with designer denim

The situation in Europe is more focused on the design. It’s about designers and not about brands. There are French luxury brands and historic denim brands. Diesel is moving from pure denim to designer denim. I also have my own brand. Europeans add things like Swarovski. They do strong washing.

EUROPE | ARMANI JEANS and JACOB COHEN

EUROPE | RSSЯ RAF SIMONS and Dior

    EUROPE | DIESEL BLACK GOLD

    EUROPE | BALMAIN PARIS

EUROPE | LANVIN PARIS and Cre label

EUROPE | Europe is obsessed with designer denim

Asia is focused on vintage denim.

Asia is focused on vintage. Asia, Europe and the US have a different approach to the denim market. Asia is more focused on tradition, heavy fabrics, non stretch fabrics, classic looks. They use selvedge and rigid ones. This is particularly true of the Japanese market. In Europe they think of the value of the brand and value of the design. America is focused on beauty, super stretch.

    ASIA | EDWIN

    ASIA | EVISU

    ASIA | KAPITAL

ASIA | STUDIO D'ARTISAN and BIG JOHN

    ASIA | MASTERCRAFTUNION and 45RPM

Asia is focused on vintage denim.

    Global AW17 Denim Trends–US, Europe , Asia

In future denim and jeans will be back to their roots. Fabrics will be heavy and not super stretch. We will have real denim made on a shuttle loom, even selvedge. New technology will be applied on denim. Stretch will be on the warp and not the weft to guarantee comfort. The look will be of real jeans. I am talking of 13 or 14 ounce. Jeans will reflect a more mature concept of fashion. We are going back to a very nice time for our market.

  • Bangladesh Denim Exports To EU On A Dream Run !

Bangladesh Denim Exports To EU On A Dream Run !

Bangladesh Denim Exports To EU On A Dream Run ! : Denimsandjeans.com Exports of denim jeans from Bangladesh is expected to have registered a steep increase of over 8% in the year 2015 . With data received for exports till October’15 , the figures look really promising . In the entire year of 2014 the country exported about 171 million pieces of denim jeans to EU with a value of USD 939 million . However, in the first 10 months of the year till October 15 , the country exported about 154 million pieces of jeans to EU. Extrapolating the figures , the growth looks well over 8% for the sector and expected to have touched a figure of over 180 million pieces . Another important development has been the up gradation in the value of exports per piece . From an average value of Euro 5.4 per piece in 2014 , the price of jeans exports has increased to an average value of Euro 6.36 – which is a sizeable increase of about 17% in unit value and is more important considering the volume of exports. There is no doubt that the country is climbing up the value chain as far as denim exports are concerned and can no longer be viewed as a low end supplier.

Bangladesh Denim Exports To EU On A Dream Run ! : Denimsandjeans.com

Bangladesh Denim Exports To EU On A Dream Run ! : Denimsandjeans.com

A comparison with China is quite interesting. China was , till 2013, the largest supplier of denim jeans to EU . However, it started suffering serious reverses in 2014 and lost market share to Bangladesh with total exports of jeans just standing at 115 million pcs compared to 171 million pcs of Bangladesh. This gap is further widening and till October’16 the exports of jeans from China is just about 80 million pcs compared to 154 million pcs of Bangladesh. So , basically now Bangladesh would be exporting twice as much of jeans to EU as China – an amazing feat indeed.

Bangladesh Denim Exports To EU On A Dream Run ! : Denimsandjeans.com

In the coming times, denim is expected to become an important driver of apparel growth from Bangladesh and will form an important part of the Bangladesh  Govt’s vision of  achieving the $50 billion export target by 2021. Not only is Bangladesh an important exporter of denim apparel to EU but also has sizeable exports to US , South America, Canada etc. The upcoming markets include destinations like India, China and South East.

Fashionimlogo_thumb Bhaskar Denim (India) was one of the sponsors at our FASHIIONIM event at our Denimsandjeans show at Dhaka.  They displayed some of their latest products on the ramp including dobby weaves, fine count fabrics, greys and blacks, prints and jersey fabrics   this is what they have to say about their participation and collection.

“ We as Bhaskar Denims were there in Denimsandjeans Show in Bangladesh to highlight once again that we are the “NeoMaster” of Denim. We are targeting to play a key role in this playground. Future conjectures lead us to these 4 main concepts for this season driven by the new-trend living styles , consumer needs & expectations.  These concepts are; Innovate , Invigorate , Illuminate and Initiate.

    1. Innovate is the new innovative fabrications by intermingling technology with more traditional forms of artistry. The concept where craft & innovation intersect and fuses the distant past with the far future to create a world where fantasy becomes reality. One of a kind products and slow processes built with character and authenticity.
    2. Invigorate is a new developing group for those who are free minded. It has become necessary to cater to the global and social reality of an independent minded populous. They can go anywhere & in any direction. Single living style, single journeys and unfollowable. Brave and responsible. Good for active life, comfy and energetic. fresh, adventurer, functional and technological.
    3. Illuminate is a passionate story about the salvation of all things that makes us human. Something about earth, something about humanity and  also about sustainability. It’s respect to all…  Exploring the power of simplicity.Trying to heal the World and its all living creatures. Emotion , instinct and intuition & better World for next generations. Otherwise mechanized & computerized society is coming to an empty  World.
    4. Initiate is a concept of luxury just for  ourselves.  Life is too short and we are very precious so we are deserving. We need to reward  ourselves. Something different than ordinary. Enjoy your limited time with high quality for unforgettable memories. For better understanding of all concepts ,you have to touch and feel the difference of high quality fabrics from Bhaskar Denim.”

Vicunha At Fashionim 4th Denimsandjeans Bangladesh Show

Fashionimlogo_thumbFashionim – the fashion show in denim – gains further traction and attraction at the fourth Denimsandjeans.com Bangladesh show. In its second avatar, the FASHIONIM further evolved and was sponsored by three companies – Vicunha , Enovy and Bhaskar. We bring in this article, the denim wear collection displayed by Vicunha .

Vicunha showed a visual feast of creative and innovative men’s and ladies denim wear. Here is what the Vicunha creative team had to say about their collection.

“To reflect the Playground theme the collection encompassed the spirit of the Athleisure trend by showing products with both attitude and comfort. Garments provided maximum impact as they showcased washes from Martelli and Comask in key shapes blurring the lines between active and casualwear. At the pinnacle of the collection were fabrics from the’ Athletic range’, a range of fabrics which perfectly addresses the crossover between sportswear and leisure. The fabrics remain denim on the outside but feel like a jog pant on the inside. This gives the wearer total freedom of movement whilst providing all the character and wash effects achievable on denim. New technological advancements featured strongly, these were showcased in many of the ‘perfect fit’ ladies jeans, offering high performance and advanced technology with an ‘ultra soft’ touch. Both Essential and premium denims featured across both men’s and ladies wear showing the flexibility of many of the articles and the trend of comfort and ease of movement into menswear.Authentic articles washed in new and innovative ways, recycled and reinvented tradition and heritage into something new, desirable and tangible. Loved, worn and mended styles epitomized this look and encompassed the ethos of this trend. All of the articles shown were made from BCI cotton, and with a stockholding service to support the Asian market, Vicunha stand strong to service this part of the world. Vicunha have spent the last 10 years building a solid foundation of sustainability credentials and support to social causes it is therefore with respect that we can proudly say Vicunha = creativity with a conscience.”

And now for some very interesting ramp looks from the Vicunha collection.
