  • Wrangler Australia Fall Winter 2014 Lookbook

Australia is very fashion and trend conscious nation when it comes to denims. We see small and big brands experimenting with latest fabrics, designs and styles to appeal to their dedicated customers.

Wrangler Australia, in their AW14/15 look book focus on and use  bright and light  blues in their jeans and jackets both for men and women, coated shinies, and light shiny chambrays for shirts . Indigo knits have been used in abundance to create tees . Distressing is limited except on the boyfriend jeans for women. A sparkling of selvedge denim is used for men but jackets in  – trucker, sherpa and howlin vest styles dominates the men’s collection.

  • Vicunha AW-15/16 Denim Collection

Vicunha, the famous denim group from Brazil  with production  distributed among five manufacturing facilities in Brazil, Ecuador and Argentina , brings out their AW15/16 denim collection. The collection has some interesting concepts including brilliant coatings (Carbolumen), denim for athletic purposes and super power stretches. We bring here a summary of their main concepts.

    SUPER POWER STRETCH

Shirt weights, satin weaves, chambrays as well as 4×1, 3×1 and 2×1 weaves are part of the SUPER POWER STRETCH program that became one of the basis segments with a fabric elasticity of up to 67%.  The weights are mainly   between 7 and 10 oz. Alongside colors and washes, optics and structure play the leading role: “high density denims” with a clean look and a soft and comfortable feeling prevail which, according to Vicunha, are important menswear as well. Consequently, the highlights include light denim qualities produced from cotton or mixtures of Tencel for blue denim shirts, as well as in women’s fashion for jumpsuits, overalls and skirts. Thomas Dislich , marketing Director says :

“In general, there is a strong trend towards fine, combed yarns, comfort yarns and polyamide: a soft, casual feeling is the most important issue. Thus, the SUPER POWER STRETCH remains a front-runner, not only for slim shapes, but also to guarantee the authenticity of form and best wearing comfort.”

    ATHLETIC DENIM

VICUNHA presents its ATHLETIC DENIM for the autumn/winter 2015/16  with an elastic stretch content of 76% for maximum comfort, elasticity and fit. It is a mixture of urban denim look on the outside and workout outfit feeling on the inside.

    Vicunha - Athletic Denim

    CARBOLUMEN

Carbolumen is a finishing highlight which presents highly brilliant coatings, natural leather looks and qualities with a cool touch and recognizable denim identity thanks to progressive technologies. Besides brilliance, structure and high quality, the primary focus is on comfort,  fit and breathability. A sophisticated softening treatment ensures succinct effects and a  contrast of glossy and matt surfaces.

    ECO-D

ECO D are authentic colored jeans line made of warp dyed yarn and the fabric consists of 100% recycled polyester obtained from recycled PET bottles and 100% BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) cotton. Each meter of fabric uses about 3 plastic bottles . Even for the dyeing process the normal water consumption is  reduced by approximately 80%, as claimed by the company- besides reusing about 70% of the remaining small amount of water.

    METALLIC GLAM

Glamour stays! Shine and glitter effects created through micro-particles applied on the fabric surface ensure exciting metallic looks. In addition to the characteristic black and silver, this season Metallic also strikes with strong colors such as royal blue and grass green. About 100 washes are guaranteed by the company for the high resistance and durability of the product.

    TRANSFORMING DENIM

TRANSFORMING DENIM “turns“ blue denim into a  piece of art, which is mixed up with bright colors. The shades of color depend on the grade of chemical treatment, for instance, by the use of permanganate spray during the washing process. The creative diversity due to the various color shadings – from soft to vivid – allows a wide range of options for the production of unique, exclusive pieces.

Orta , Turkey, brings out few interesting concepts for their Fall Winter ‘15/16 denim collection including the ‘Whites’  inspired by Aviation clothing , ‘Rebel Blues’  inspired by jeans worn by iconic figures like Marlon  Brando and James Dean etc. Here are the details of their denim concepts.  Orta define in their own words the idea and design behind each concept below which they are launching at Denim by PV.

    Arctic Whites

“Capturing the golden age of aviation in the 1920’s and 30’s, and the spirit, elegance and romance of the first female pilots that took to the skies. The courage and style of heroines such as Amelia Earhart and Amy Johnson became Orta’s inspiration. This concept brings together original antique aviation clothing from The Vintage Showroom’s collection with Orta’s fabrics to create a wardrobe fit. Arctic Whites uses the shades of glaciers of the Arctic Ocean. Beautiful stone wash finishes, dirty off whites and greys capture the drama of this landscape of shadow and light while perfectly showcasing the fabrics chosen for the concept.”

    Round Midnight

“Round Midnight is a modern nod to the rock icons of the 60’s and 70’s. The 60’s and 70’s were a time of great change in the world, particularly in fashion. This change is personified by the rock icons of the time. From classic front men like Morrison, Jagger and Hendrix to punk bands like The Clash and The Ramones. ‘Round Midnight is a modern nod to these musical innovators.Developed for both men and women, it is a mix of breathable comfort underneath, with bold and sleek coatings on top. There are three new coatings: Glaze (soft feeling with a leather-like shine), Haze (smooth matte for a smart casual look with clean twill lines) and Craze(subtle, natural shine which develops a unique character with wear). This collection, designed by Serdar Uzuntas, is as wild and fresh as its inspiration.”

  • Copenhagen Fashion Summit | Isko Denim Challenge

On April 24th took place in Copenhagen one of the most important events for the fashion industry and sustainability: the Copenhagen Fashion Summit, a biennial event organized by the Danish Fashion Institute on behalf of the Nordic Fashion Association, where more than 1,100 companies from 34 countries confronted themselves with sustainability among the fashion industry.

The event was inaugurated by the presence of the Princess Mary of Denmark and 23 speakers participated in the summit, for example Livia Firth of Eco-Age Ldt., Alan Roberts of Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety, Vanessa Friedman – fashion editor of the Financial Times – and Helena Helmersson of H&M.

Industry leaders were gathered with the mission of discussing solutions that can come to terms with the fact that the fashion industry is one of the world’s most polluting industries.

Among the outcomes was the launch of Clevercare.info, a care label aiming to educate consumers to care for their clothes in a more sustainable way. Another solution presented was the project Restart Fashion: Five Easy Steps to Sustainability; an online platform helping designers make more sustainable choices in the design and production process.

Some of the quotes from the summit were quite incisive and thought provoking .

“Sixty million people work in the fashion industry globally and it is an industry worth 2.5 trillion dollars, yet somehow we have divorced the clothes we buy from the fact that living, breathing people make them”. “It’s a case of out of sight, out of mind. We cannot keep eating from this big, cheap fashion pile without thinking about who made our clothes.” –Livia Firth, Eco-Age Ltd.

H&M feels that there is an increased push from the consumers to bring out ethical clothing.

H&M has carried out a research that suggests their shoppers are 21% more interested in ethical clothing than they were a year ago. “Ethical clothes only work when they look good and are affordable.” –Helena Helmersson, head of sustainability at H&M

“Designers are expected to do six to eight collections a year; high-street retailers bring new collections in every week. The system is based on planned obsolescence, and guess what? It is unsustainable. – Vanessa Friedman, journalist, Financial times

ISKOâ„¢, that always focuses its activity on innovation, was one of the sponsors of this event and participating in the panel discussion about innovative materials, together with Chantal Malingrey-Perrin – Marketing Director Première Vision, Giusy Bettoni – CEO and Founder C.L.A.S.S., Catarina Midby – Head of Sustainable Fashion H&M.

Panel debate 01 - Copenhagen Fashion Summit

In addition, ISKOâ„¢ (Turkey) also promoted the Denim Challenge dedicated to 5 emerging designers that had the opportunity to realize their designs in collaboration with Creative Room â„¢ , ISKOâ„¢ division  for style and research. Each of them presented their designs and the designers  Barbara i Gongini and Paola SuhÖnen from  Ivana Helsinki got the accolades and were declared winners. We are giving below a design from each of the five designers with their brand names on the images.

The panelists felicitated the two designers saying

”Barbara i Gongini put an edge to sustainability with fantastic and sexy styles. She re-thought denim and understood how to transform it into her DNA. Very inspirational"

"Ivana Helsinki’s collection is like an artist’s canvas. It’s a new way to look at denim, especially as she works with volume in a very unique way. And in addition, the styles are easy to transform from day use to night use only by accessorising differently.
