Resort 2017 | Givenchy Denim Looks

For the Resort 2017 , Givenchy prefers, like before,  to have black and white pics for their collection for their own reasons, but it is sometimes difficult to make out the quality of denim from these pics. However, we can still make out that most of the washes are   Retro with salt and pepper effects, bit of mashup designs with differential weight and color fabrics and leathers, heavier fabrics,  Super dark blacks  with added leather elbows and knees , cool jacquards for both tops and bottoms, and   sprinkled distresses.  On the whole the collection looks interesting.  Your take on this ?

Tomorrow Is Calling | Denim PV 2-3 Nov. 2016 | Denimsandjeans

Denim by PV comes back to Paris on November  2nd and 3rd Nov and will be held at Paris Event Centre. The last 5 editions of DPV were held at Barcelona from where it has moved back to Paris . With over 77 exhibitors from around the world, DPV hopes to draw in more than the 4000 international visitors who came in the last show.  The Director of Denim PV – Chantal Malingrey – says

“New consumers -the millennials, Generation Z (or C for creation, collaboration, communication, connection)– move the boundaries and call into question well-established principles. Denim Première Vision wants to speak to insiders as well as the new generation of designers of fashion and denim. We are going to put forward new experiences to stimulate brands’ imagination and enable buyers and designers to better understand the issues of creation and consumption. This is to develop experiences around this unique material: denim.

    Products

Some of the key exhibitors showcase the details of the products that they are going to launch at PV. The main focus of their launches and new products seems to be ‘Sustainability’ and ‘Eco-Initiatives’.

    Vicunha Textil

    Vicunha At PV

VICUNHA denims are distinguished by 100% BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) cotton. The recycling processes, as per company,  are so efficient that there is no waste at the end of the production phase. VICUNHA is the largest individual consumer of BCI cotton in the world. The fabric range also includes a series of styles made using three recycled PET bottles per metre and which require around 80% less water to produce. Launched this season, the ECO RECYCLE range of fabrics incorporates waste yarn which is recycled back into the spinning process to create new yarn.

    SOORTY

    Soorty At PV

Soorty launches a collection that is sustainable from raw fiber till washed garment. The company aims for responsibility in each and every stage of their vertically organized production process. Soorty offers green fibers, sustainable dyes and processes, eco- finishes and responsible washing.

    Prosperity

    Prosperity-300

Prosperity Textile has continued to expand its offering of hydrosulfite-free indigo colours by introducing Carmine Blue: a unique 70’s inspired indigo shade that is a perfect colour for vintage inspired denims, either rigid or with a hint of stretch.
Sustainability remains a key driver at Prosperity. All lightweights/shirtings are made with BCI Cotton and the use of post-consumer recycled cotton has become a mainstay.

  • Limited Edition Chiara Ferragni Jeans By Levi’s

Limited Edition Chiara Ferragni Jeans By Levi’s

The limited edition of Ferragni Jeans by Levis in   collaboration with Chiara Ferragni has been announced recently . Chiara Ferragni,a  style icon , is the founder of the fashion lifestyle platform and e-shop The Blonde Salad and in partnership with Levi’s design team, created two 501 jeans at Levi’s Eureka Innovation Lab and denim atelier in San Francisco.

The two original designs include hand stitched embroidery and matching faded emerald blue bandana, and a embroidered heart, both on authentic, washed-out, vintage-feel indigo finishes . The collaboration with the Italian fashion icon and world-renowned blogger Chiara Ferragni to create these limited-edition 501® Jeans seems to be very exciting for Levi’s. They feel it is ‘True to the original, feature the iconic straight fit and signature button fly, and are cut from durable denim with a substantial feel ‘’. This special pair is infused with a hint of stretch for comfort, do-it-all functionality and the perfect amount of give (and recovery). Chiara has personalized them with fun, ‘lived-in’ style — a heavily faded wash of indigo (blue), subtle elements of wear throughout and bandana cut-out adornments.’

“Chiara reflects a cool style that has become a daily source of style inspiration for many,” commented Karyn Hillman, chief product officer, Levi’s.

“We love how she mixes authentic denim pieces into her looks. Working with Chiara on the creative design process was fun as she is incredibly passionate about denim. We were excited to partner with her to reimagine our most iconic product – the 501. We love the results!”

The Levi’s-Chiara Ferragni pieces will be sold exclusively at selected Levi’s stores, levi.com and in a selection of premium department stores including 10 Corso Como, Selfridges, and Le Bon Marché at a retail price of 130€. Seems expensive for minimal design add-on !

Mexico’s economy has performed well relative to other major Latin American economies in recent years, largely because of its thriving manufacturing sector. Unlike Brazil and Argentina, whose manufacturing sectors are slumping, Mexico has continued to see solid growth because of its integration with and dependence on the U.S. market. Although low global oil prices will put pressure on Mexico’s economy, the performance of the manufacturing sector — especially in high-end manufacturing — will be a key driver of Mexico’s economic growth this year and beyond.

    Analysis:

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Mexico underwent a profound economic and political reorganization. The economy liberalized, culminating in the North American Free Trade Agreement. Major state-owned companies privatized, transforming Mexico from a closed economic and political system into an export-oriented industrial economy. As a result, trade increased between Mexico and the United States, and a manufacturing belt sprung up at the countries’ shared border. From 1990 to 2000, Mexican trade became even more closely tied to the United States. In 1990, the United States accounted for 69 percent of all Mexican trade; by 2000, it accounted for nearly 80 percent.

But at the turn of the century, China’s special economic zones became cost-competitive alternatives to Mexican factories. Mexico responded by making more valuable products, such as automotive, aeronautical and electronic products. Thus, even though clothing exports dropped 43 percent (from $7.6 billion to $4.3 billion) between 2002 and 2012, automotive exports increased by 152 percent ($27.9 billion to $70.3 billion) and electronic exports increased by 73 percent ($43.3 billion to $74.9 billion) over the same period. Asian alternatives to high-end products notwithstanding, these Mexican products remained cost-competitive because of NAFTA.

Moreover, rising wages in China have once again shifted the equation in global manufacturing. Average manufacturing labor costs in Mexico are now almost 20 percent lower than in China, whereas in 2000, Mexico’s labor costs were 58 percent more expensive than China’s. All these reasons again make it comeback story for Mexico and we see a resurgence of exports to US including apparel. In this report we did a detailed analysis of Export of Denim Fabric By Mexico For the year 2015 and YTD June 2016 . We will see how Mexico how and where is Mexico exporting its denim fabrics and at what prices. Normally it is believed that US should be the largest market for Mexican denim fabrics. Is it so ? Maybe not !

3000 Year Old : Natural Indigo Dyeing Workshop From Rajasthan, India

Indigo dyeing has been done in countries like China, Indian Sub Continent and other parts of the world. However, it has been preserved well by some artisan families in Rajasthan .  Mr Lal from one such family in Rajasthan  which has been practicing natural indigo and other dyes for over 500 years gave workshop on the process of dyeing . As the workshop started, it turned out to be more interesting and exciting as there’s a magnetic lure to the process of indigo-dyeing by hand – looking at the fabric going from black to green to blue ! . Designers are at it nationally and globally, and retail players peddle hard-to-resist indigo collections. The magic stays until the fabric is put to wash. The color runs, and runs some more, with each wash. The workshop was also broadcasted live by the organizers and it received global response.

“The growing interest in indigenous hand-woven fabrics and techniques in recent years has brought indigo to the mainstream and this live workshop is our small effort in attaching this art to global denim industry “, said Mr Sandeep Agarwal.

Trends From London Fashion Week SS–17 | Part-I

The recent London Fashion Week brought out design talent from some of the most well known designers like Marques Almeida , Faustine Steinmetz, Victoria Beckham  etc   as well as some not so well known ones. But all of them added their own unique signatures to the SS-17 Ready to wear Collections . We focus on the denim part of these collections though the rest of the collections were equally or more gorgeous !

    Marques ‘ Almeida

Some  fashion forward jeans from the designers who made their name with denim could be seen on the runway. Included in the denim part of collection were some frayed end denim jackets and bell jeans, slip dresses , denim long boots and some extra long jeans to cover the shoes ! Marques Almeida never fail to surprise !

    Faustine Steinmetz

Faustine Steinmetz has been known for her recycled denim in high end looks. This time she continues the saga of high fashion items using Swarovski crystals, ombre looks and combining recycled cotton and polyester. Models were, for a change, not walking but displayed the garments while reclining under low studio lights – taking away the detailed looks that people want to have on her garments.

    Ashish

The Indian designer gave a very ethnic look to this collection including denim. Denim got an ethnic makeover with detailed embroideries and embellishments. Bollywood angle also reflected in some of his pieces !

    Victoria Victoria Beckham

Relaxed looks with added elements of embroideries, inside out pockets and striped seams made the collection look laid back. The designer seems to be going for simple and wearable looks in her denim pieces.

    Mother of Pearl

This collection marked the first time Mother of Pearl has used denim.  Elegantly used, the Mother of Pearl woman gave  the impression of a woman in charge of her own sexiness, flaunting and checking it in equal measure.

    Versus Versace

Extreme distressing on bleached denim was the highlight of Versus Versace Denim looks. Created for the Bad and a Rebel girl who breaks the rule, the models wore the expression to match the denim and the typically rebel girl.

  • Belstaff

In 1916 two descendants of President Martin Van Buren, Augusta and Adeline, refused to accept the U.S. government’s refusal to recruit women as military dispatch riders in World War I: To prove their worth, they would ride their Indian motorcycles across the nation. Leaving in July and arriving in September they crossed from Brooklyn to Los Angeles, and were detained several times along the way by local police who held them for wearing masculine clothes. Though they did not get the desired response from  military  , the Van Buren girls went on to other exploits. But their story was a great context for Belstaff designers to create jeans for the rebel women bikers !

    Dsquared2

Dean and Dan Caten put so much into their Dsquared  collections and the SS’17 collection is no different. Blending grunge effects with distressings, embellishments and sequins and not to forget the Swarowski’s – as is the want with many a designers today – , the prints  etc the duo brought out a high fashion look. The bleached grunge effects added to the sentiment of the design. Effectively Dean and Dan mixed a number of elements in this collection for a high fashion look we have seen with many designers. VICUNHA Spring/Summer 2018 collection

Brazil’s denim mill – Vicunha Têxtil  reveals the early trends for Spring/Summer 2018 with their product lines manufactured from 100% BCI cotton. VICUNHA has invested its energies in new technological advancements to introduce their collection :  Denim at its best!

    SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is THE MANTRA for a large number of buyers and suppliers in the changing global eco-financial environment. Some companies however try to take this mantra a step ahead . Vicunha finds it  one of the most important pillars  and has been the focus of their activities for more than ten years now. The Vicunha Team stresses this point :

“ All VICUNHA denims are distinguished by 100% BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) cotton. The recycling process is so efficient that there is no waste at the end of the production and therefore we can claim to produce zero landfill. In fact VICUNHA is the largest individual consumer of BCI cotton in the world and uses around 100,000 tonnes a year. For SS2018 we will be launching a new range of ECO RECYCLE fabrics, this range incorporates waste yarn , recycled back into the spinning process to create new yarn, options are set to be available in both stretch and rigids. The key to good recycled yarn is consistency, this is difficult to achieve, however as VICUNHA create this in house under strict control, we are able to achieve exacting standards. The range of fabrics to be offered also includes options that also use less water in the making. The number of eco styles is continuing to increase and VICUNHA is ahead of the game, this is Eco power at its best!. Here are some of our products made in eco – sustainable way .  “

    SHIRTINGS AND LIGHTWEIGHTS

With newly woven textures and visual effects, Vicunha pushes forward on a range of lightweight shirting / dress fabrics for spring/summer 2018 . According to the company ,

Texture features strongly in the collection, fresh small dobby’s and herringbones which when coated further emphasize and enhance the structure of the fabric in wash. As a contrast VICUNHA also incorporate a lightweight papery finish shirting which provides an excellent base for prints. “
