  • How A Pair Of Nudie Jeans Are Made?

    For those who have not seen the full manufacturing process of a jeans right from the Cotton Cleaning to Final Packing of jeans, this small video would be a interesting piece to watch.

    Prepared by Nudie JeansTV – the official YouTube channel for Nudie Jeans Co., it covers all the aspects of manufacturing of jeans by Nudie Jeans. Though the process would be more or less same for all denim manufactured, the finishing and washing processes can sometimes differ from company to company.

    The first 1 minute of the video show the Denim Fabric manufacturing process (which is actually not done by Nudie or most of the denim brands – but by denim mills around the world) and then the interesting part starts showing the application of hand sanding and other finishing techniques.   • 100 jobs cut at ITG Denim Plant in Greensboro , USA

    International Textile Group Inc. has cut 100 jobs at its White Oak denim-manufacturing plant in Greensboro — about 25 percent of the work force.

    It is the second time in five months that the company has eliminated jobs at the plant in an attempt to balance production capacity with demand for its denim from such customers as Levi’s. ITG cut 150 jobs in December as part of eliminating yarn production at the plant.

    Most Visible Styles In the Video

    1. Boyfriend Jeans – As expected every brand worth its salt is coming out with Boyfriend Jeans and Shorts.
    2. Skinny Jeans – Still refuses to die out and keeps emerging in new forms like ‘Slouchy Skinny’  which is a cross between Skinny and Boyfriend styles.
    3. Straight Denim is still going strong.

    Ripped, Torned , Acid washed and Frayed are the wash effects/finishes that are most suggested.  In fact we are probably seeing more of Ripped effects in various brands this year than they were last year.

    And for the sophisticated,  White Denim  (clean/ripped) is recommended for wearing in day or night.

  • Bikini Jeans ? Hmmmm.. Interesting .

    We had seen  lot of ultra low waisted jeans that we had seen all through last couple of seasons and there was a  feeling that low waisted jeans were slowly fading away.

    But all the previous lows have been proved to be quite ‘High’ compared to this new Bikini Jeans that has come from a Japanese Brazilian company – Sanna Brazil Fashion. The bikini seems to have been merged with the jeans to create a new ultra low and exposing jeans. The bikini strings hold the jeans on to its place which would otherwise just fall off !

    Most men would not be complaining on women wearing these jeans though some women would.

    However, on a serious note , the jeans is meant for highly perfect bodies and will be difficult to carry off by most women. The occasions to put on such a dress would probably be limited and it is probably a fad which will not carry far.. But the fact that me and probably many others like me are writing about these jeans have created a visual sensation at least.. And if you (women only!) are bold enough to try these, visit the site of the company to buy online.

  • Gap relaunch of 1969 premium denim line – clever strategy in recession times

    Gap has given a sneek peak of its 1969 premier denim line which it is relaunching for the Fall 2009.

    The most interesting part of this development is that the denims will be priced under $60 /- where most of the similar premium denim retails at above  $150 + range. Its designers (headed by Patrick Robinson) have spent over a year and half to develop this range at this price. Gap seems to have interacted with everyone in the supply chain – including managers from production floors of various mills around the world – to cut down the costs and get the product at this price. It seems that the launch is timed well

     

     

    The line has  diverse styles and washes for both men and women – from skinny to straight and the new ‘Boyfriend’ jeans for women.

    This announcement by Gap has Levi’s  frowning as they feel that the product – dark blue, stiff-looking, retro-style jeans -closely resembles their Hard Jeans product .

    It seems to be a good move by Gap where the demand for premium denim is still there but the consumers are looking for cheaper options to their usual purchases of $100 + denims. Do we foresee a price war being triggered in the premium denim category with this launch by Gap?? Time will tell…

  • Pepe Jeans Spring/Summer 2009 – behind the scenes and more -Video

    Here is a video on behind the scenes look at the shoot of ‘Pepe Jeans’ Spring/Summer 2009 denim collection. The models are Giedre Dukauskaite and Sean Opry. Though not much can be seen about the details of denims , they seem to have used a lot of ‘White Bleached Denim’ for their collection.

     

  • Denim or Jeans ! What are people searching? And from where ?

    Google trends is a good place to know what people around the world are searching for and one can also compare different terms for search and get a single graph to analyze which search terms are more popular. Though one does not get the absolute number of searches made on a search query, but one can get the relative search data for different queries.

    I found it interesting to compare the search terms – ‘Denim’ and ‘Jeans’ for the year 2008. As expected the term ‘Jeans’ is much more popular – almost 8 times more popular ! . Thus the number of searches made worldwide for ‘Jeans’ is eight times more than that of ‘ Denim’. Also the most interesting to note here is that  Australia as a country tops the search queries for ‘Jeans’and close behind is ‘ USA’. I did’nt know that Australians were so fond of ‘ Jeans’. However, as a city, ‘New York’ and other American cities stand first in search volumes .

  • Report on Import of Denim Fabrics into US – 2006 to 2008

    In this report, we will have a look at the  imports of denim fabrics into US for the last  four  years ie from the year 2005 to 2008 . As you will note from the report, the imports had peaked in the year 2005 when the premium denim trend had caught on very strongly resulting in a increase in jeans manufacturing activity in the US. The following two years –2006 and 2007 show a fall in imports which indicates that the US denim mills caught up a little with the Italian and Japanese denim mills in terms of quality which could be used by the Premium denim brands – though the imports could not be substituted to a large extent.

    The year 2008 has again shown a drop of over 10% over 2007 and the net imports stand at 41 million mtrs. Perhaps a sign of times to come in this era of recession..
