Celebrities in Double Denim |2013

Double denim â€“or the Canadian Tuxedo - has been a trend widely followed in the 90s. It has been a strick no-no for about 2 decades now. However, for the last more than a year, new life has been breathed into the trend with a number of celebrities endorsing it in different ways. Double denim â€“ both the trouser and top being denim- is not an easy look to carry off and one has to be very careful to match the right wash, color and look of each garment . If one gets it wrong, one can end up as Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears â€“ they managed to look horrible in their quadruple denim in a 2001 picture !!

Lets look at some of the celebrities in double denim recently seen in double denim and its your vote whether this trend will last !

Katie Holmes

A bit casual, but both the jeans and the shirt are almost similar washed indigo. Katie can still it off ..

Gwen Stefani

Not the best combination of double denim by Gwen, but still goes !

Elle Macpherson

Elle Macpherson softens the denim on denim look with a black coat and accenting the look with a pair of leopard loafers. Not bad !

As we see above, double denim does not always work even if worn by celebrities. One has to be careful about the selection of denim color, wash, finish etc to bring that essential combination that does not look â€˜ Too Loaded With Denimâ€™. Normally one of the two garments has to be light and other be dark. One could also play with different levels of distressing to break that monotony of blue if using similar colors of indigo.

Topman from UK has some useful suggestions to make double denim work :

a)Combine black jeans with blue jacket.

b)Blue acid washed jeans with a darker jacket.

c)Add dip dye denim to combine with normal blue or black denim.

Double denim is certainly a good idea from the suppliersâ€™ perspective ..More the denim, more the fun , as it goes !

Denim by PV : A/W: 14-15 Trends–I
During our recent coverage of Denim by PV- Denim CIRCUS – show held at Paris , we met a number of important companies displaying their new Autumn Winter â€“14/15 Collections . A number of prime trends emerged from the show :

In this first part of the report, we will cover few companies from the companies and their products from the show.

Arvind Mill â€“ India

Arvind is one of the largest denim companies in the world. . First of all, here is a video on a chat with Mr Aamir Akhtar- CEO Arvind â€“ which gives us some idea about what Arvind is doing and what type of products they brought out.

With a focus on design, sustainability and innovation , ArvindÂ brought out someÂ technological concepts like:
- Neo Denim â€“ A new way of dyeing denim which is much more sustainable as per Arvind and hardly uses any water in the process of dyeing and maintains a deep dyeing look. This includes indigo and color dyeing on corduroy fabrics .
- Mink Finish â€“ A finish which gives very soft handle to stretch denims.
- Gloss finish â€“ bringing out high sheen and gloss on the fabrics.
- Spice denim â€“Â 100% cotton Ecru fabric which can be dyed to bring out the warp dyed look in garment dyeing.

Bossa â€“ Turkey

A video below shows a chat with Sedef Unku â€“ Marketing Manager â€“ from Bossa in which she explains the new concepts introduced by Bossa.

Bossa Denim – Turkey

Pure Blue: Pure indigo colors enriched with shiny coatings and raw and unwashed looks.
Up inÂ the Woods : Name comes from color used in this palette. Inspired by sand, ocean, woods etc and the colors are used in warp and weft of the fabrics.
More than skin : Super stretches with modal cotton blends .
Ultranero : Super dark blacks which stays blackÂ . Period !
Weft Games : A lot of playing with the wefts to bring out tech products.

The company also brought out niche selvedge products with focus on special finishes, coatings, shiny treatmentsÂ and colored wefts to give a value addition to these fabrics.

Tavex â€“ Spain

A chat with Richard Tobin from Tavex gives an idea of the new collection in the video below.

Tavex came out with
- Saturated black colors .
- Super shiny looks
- Multi color looks with various production techniques including
  colored fills, deep colors with casts – fabrics which bring out different character after wash downs.
- Super softs and supple fabrics
- Coatings – the company plays with a lot of coats in the front and the back – on different fabrics . The coatings are also breathable .
Soorty â€“ Pakistan

Participating for the first time in the PV and recently certified to produce the X-Fit fabrics, the company came out with the following concepts .
Sustainable collection: Collection based on recycled fabrics and other waste reducing processes.
Candy Floss : Different hues in fabrics with overdyeing and other processes.
Cowboy : They are rugged and dipped in the shades of western culture. Deep dark, heavy weight fabrics made for western.
Elite: Elite is a fabric which stands out in terms of shine, look and texture. Targeted for the high end segment ..
Natureâ€™s Beauty : Character of fabric changed by giving a different casts.
X-fits : Dual stretches.

Artistic Milliners â€“ Pakistan

Artistic Milliners , the group from Pakistan which is coming out with a LEEDS certified factory shortly ,Â came out with denim products including :
- Micro Modal â€“ for that super soft feelingÂ for the ladies apparel . The micro modal fibre is derived from peach trees. Produced by Lenzing , the fibre is used in over 50% weight of the fabric to give that super soft touch which women are looking for.
- Lolita : Designs and printsÂ with PU, glitter , pigment and others.
- X-fit : Dual stretch, the company is X-fit certifiiedÂ to bring out
- Structures and jacquards : A mix of weaves of jacquards and dobbies.
- Love by : Again lots ofÂ lyocellÂ fibers in this collection.
ITV â€“ Italy

Flock, prints , super softsÂ and the Wine dyed (sustainable) fabrics were some of the items inÂ ITV collection which they focused on . We are also presenting a video on a chat with the ITV team.

The company had a lot of prints, shiny looks, coatings, and other treatments to cater to high fashion brands.

Calik â€“ Turkey

Calik from Turkey had come out with the Lokum Coffee concept . The company worked on a design concept which movesÂ from garment styling backwards to fabric development.Â Collection has been developed on a pop up concept where the collection would changeÂ every few months. Fabrics included ones inspired by Marine Coffee colorsÂ including colored wefts, super darks with brown tones.

Flared Jeans Trend–Celebrities Endorsing it ..

Skinny jeans style have been ruling the roost for the womenâ€™s denim for last many years. We keep on hearing new styles like boyfriend jeans which challenge the Skinny , but none of them beats the skinny.

The new kid on the block is the Flare Jeans. Flared jeans are not new , a lot of them have been seen in the 80s and early 90s and also in recent years. They have been in collections of many labels , but in smaller numbers. They have been making their appearance but never held together as a major trend in the recent years.

However, now we may be looking at some revival of this trend with a number of celebrities and stylists taking up to it. Lindsay Lohan, Alessandra Ambrosio and Jessica Alba have also embraced flared trousers, perhaps for their ability to balance hips and make you appear slimmer.

Victoria Beckham has been seen quite often recently with flared jeans signalling her preference for this reemerging trend.

Jessica Alba has also been seen with such jeans on a number of occassions recently.

The celebrity stylist Rachael Zoe has been recently seen a number of times endorsing the flares in her dressing .

British women seem specially to be looking for more of Flared jeans and we shall , of course, see more of them in the stores in the coming months.

Denim Looks On A Rainy Day in Paris Summer

On a recent visit to Paris , it was an unexpectantly rainy and cloudy weather in the month of May ! . All our hopes of looking at some bright summer denim clothing on the streets were dashed . But , not to be daunted, we thought it in place to check out what and how much the Parisians (locals and visitors) are wearing from their denim wardrobes even as rain gods blessed the city . The results were encouraging. Over 85.75% * of women were wearing denim and about 82.34% * of men were in their denims!!!! .. Lets have a look at some of the denim looks from the Parisian streets on a rainy day !!

Ladies mostly focused on wearing their skinny jeans in this weather with long coats and smart shoes. Bright blues , colors and black denim could be easily visible besides some leather looks in denim. Flare jeans seem to be more visible now on women â€“ a comeback for this style ?? Men had a lot of dark colors with long slubs and multi count looks in denim besides some lighter colors or bleached looks. The

We also had a look at some of the stores. Gap used a lot of dark colors and stripes. Double denim was a trend which was being projected by the brand.

Uniqlo, the famous Japanese retailer , displayed a lot of color denims (for men) in their flagship store at Paris.

* Note : Please ignore the figures given above . These are just for giving some encouragement to the denim suppliers. But ,yes, even without working out the figures , it can be safely said that denim usage remains strong and vibrant

Floral Print Denim Jeans -2012

Color denims have been the strongest trend seen in the Spring/Summer 2012 season. Another trend complementing the color denims is the Floral Prints Denim Jeans for the Women which is creating its own space alongside the color denims. Usually complementing with super stretches and light weight denims, the floral prints can be seen in the collection of many of the top denim brands. Lets have a look at some of the styles :

The floral print denims have been around for some time and this season they are complementing the color denims. Such trends are never in huge volumes as not many people(ladies here) can carry them off comfortably. Hopefully many will do this yearâ€¦â€¦.
