VIETHONG textiles is one of the most important denim mills in Vietnam and has been operating for over 20 years. They are one of the most regular participants in our D&J show in Vietnam and will be joining the 7th edition of D&J-Denimsandjeans Vietnam B2B event in HO Ch Minh City. We speak to the Marketing Head Mr Romeo Ordas to understand more about the company and its vision in a Q&A below :
VIET Hong Textile is one of the biggest fully integrated denim fabric mill in Vietnam. Please shed a light on your journey?
Viet Hong Textile originated from the mother company Viet Huong Group, which started by producing instant noodles and food flavoring years after they built 2 Industrial Park in Binh Duong Province. In 2005, Viet Hong Textile was established to cater to the growing demand for Denim fabric locally and internationally. From a mere production capacity of 300K meters a month, Viet Hong Textile is producing 1M to 1.2M meters and planning to increase capacity to 1.5M to 1.8M meters a month in 2026 by investing in new weaving machinery and dyeing machines. Viet Hong is also not new in the international market, continuously reaching out to other customers and penetrating new markets such as Europe, Russia, and Canada.
Why do you believe in Vietnam and why do you think it has a great future especially denim?
I believe that Vietnam is in a perfect position in terms of apparel and textile manufacturing, as we have established ourselves as the denim manufacturing hub in ASIA. We have young, trainable, and skilled workers, not to mention our competitive pricing and high productivity.
Vietnam will have a great future, anticipating 10 more years in the apparel business. Vietnam companies are always ready to invest and improve our textile and apparel ecosystem. We have diverse raw material sources to satisfy ever-changing buyers’ requirements.
In addition, we have eight existing FTAs with different nations, including CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership) and EVFTA (EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement). We support our environment towards sustainability and innovations by adopting more sustainable dyeing/washing processes, which include waterless and non-harmful chemicals that protect our workers and the environment.
Lastly, the good support from our government is also a plus factor.
What are the latest innovative products from your stable which you feel proud about?
European governments are steadily coming out with regulations relating to sustainability. How do these regulations affect you – are you changing your technologies to be ready for the same ?
Our market share in Europe is still minimal, and since the EU is an important market, some practices and procedures are already in place in our production cycle. Our technology and process upgrades, like investing in water-saving dyeing machines, are coming, and the ERP system will be implemented soon. Our product line also consists of organic cotton, recyclable yarns, and biodegradable materials. We have global certifications such as the Higg Index, GRS/RCS, and OEKO-TEX. We are traveling to Europe in September to learn more about the EU market and its comprehensive requirements.
What do you think will be the effect on Tariffs by USA in the denim industry specially from Vietnam’s perspective?
Tariffs will strongly impact the denim industry in Vietnam, especially since we do not have an FTA agreement with the USA. However, Vietnam is not the focus of the US government due to our strong relationship with them. Besides, we are the preferred alternative to China by most US buyers.
With Vietnam’sstrong manufacturing ecosystem, shifting global sourcing trends, and focus on sustainability, we are in a better position.
What are the main products that you shall be showcasing in the Denims and jeans Vietnam show in June 2025?

You have experienced the Egypt growth story very positively and deeply and we are sure you are very convinced about it . How do you see the future developing?
Egypt is the new star for jeans production. Still needs a lot of implementations to create a fully efficient supply chain, but this will happen very soon, as the efforts and investments being done will bring Egypt production to a different level
Already now you can feel the boom in requests; the future, not far away, is going to be brilliant.
We thank you for joining the first Denimsandjeans Egypt show in 2025. What would be your focus collection and products this time?
SS26 is all about freshness, softness and blending with nature. Simplicity and purity drive silhouettes while comfort is still king.
We have 4 main concepts this season:
Verso concept is for smart and clean look. In this concept one of the main group is MaxSoft fabrics that take softness to another level by a special techniques. There is also tencel and organic cotton blended fabrics which makes denim richer and gives extra comfort.. Our new reactive blue color Ever Sky is a fresh alternative for clean look.
Good Ole concept is for authentic look. Fine slub effects, crosshatches and tencel, hemp blended articles not only giving a true authentic look but also promising the comfort
Coolr concept is all about colors, prints and different weaves. It is the future of denim in an art form.
In Relive concept, each season we select and highlight some of our sustainable efforts. This season we focused on tencel, hemp and regenerative cotton. All our articles in tencel made by organic cotton and all the hemps by regenerative cotton.
You also work on luxury denim and selvedge fabric range. Can you elaborate on such specialities and how it helps you to differentiate from other companies.
Dream of Nile, our registered Brand, is all made of Giza 94 Cotton. It brings denim to a different level. It is the natural link between luxury and denim. Drapy, shiny, clearly visible super reach and high level fabrics. All this simply using a “locally sourced†fiber.
Loomers, our selvedge line, produced on Rutti 50/60 years old looms. Fully regenerative cotton. The smell of heritage is perceivable.
The above two lines helps giving our customers the possibility of enhancing their collection with naturally produced products at a different level
And… more to come in this direction….
You have done a lot of work on integrating sustainable technologies and materials . What would be the key ones that you feel are the most important and ones which also help you align with the goals of the brands.
We believe it is not a single action or implementation of technologies, fibers or activities which makes the difference. The will and the strategy of the company is making the difference when it comes to sustainability. Both ecological and social sustainability can only result from this KEY: company mindset, starting from the owner, going to all levels.
Denimsandjeans is happy to have Wiser Globe at the 1st edition of Denimsandjeans Egypt show on Feb 2-3, 2025 at Cairo, Egypt as an exhibitor and as a sponsor . Wiser Globe is a full-service supply chain company in Turkey, involved in all kinds of garment production and sustainable innovation development. They have a very strong presence in Egypt and are investing in the country due to strong positive outlook of potential growth opportunities in sustainable fashion from here. We recently had a talk with the Chairman – Mr Fuat Gozacan to gain insights of the company , their innovations and expectations from the show.
1) Wiser Globe is a full-service supply chain company, involved in all kinds of garment production and sustainable innovation development through multiple divisions. Tell us a little more about your group?
We have been serving the garment manufacturing sector since 1997. Over the years, as market dynamics evolved, we expanded our focus to include investments in different regions. This shift not only enhanced our flexibility but also enabled us to cater to a diverse customer portfolio. Today, we serve over 20 product categories. Our group not only provides an alternative in the supply chain but also pioneers the industry with innovative technologies. Through groundbreaking initiatives like Wiser Technology and Wiser Wash, we are advancing sustainable washing processes while introducing AI-powered machines to the industry for the first time.
2) We thank you for joining the first Denimsandjeans Egypt show in 2025. Why do you think Egypt is getting more important to the global apparel supply chain, and how is Wiser Globe positioning itself there?
Egypt is still a developing country in the sector, and investments there need to proceed with consistent and strategic planning. Recognizing the opportunities in the country about two years ago, we began our investments. Although there is still much to be done, we aim to reach a leading position in the shortest time by deploying Turkish experts in the region who excel in their respective fields.
3) You have offered some very unique sustainable solutions like Wiser Wash to the industry. Can you elaborate on these, and how satisfied are you with the results achieved?
At Wiser Globe, sustainable washing solutions have always been a priority. In 2017, we introduced the Wiser Wash patented process to the industry, and since then, we have partnered with numerous brands and continue to do so. This method uses dry ozone technology to achieve natural and vibrant looks comparable to traditional methods. Wiser Wash also holds an LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) certification and is recognized as the most efficient and water-saving denim bleaching method globally. To further perfect this process, we established our own technology company, Wiser Tech, which introduced the first AI-powered sustainable washing machines to the industry. This allows us to use Wiser Wash more effectively and seamlessly.
4) What would be your key focus in terms of product and technology offerings during Denimsandjeans Egypt?
Currently, we have the capability to produce over 20 product categories, and we have begun manufacturing these in Egypt. We are continuously expanding our product range. Additionally, we aim to adapt Wiser Wash and Wiser Tech solutions to the region, offering both traditional and sustainable applications to meet the needs of our valued customers.
5) Do you believe in the success story of Egypt, and how do you see the future of the country?
Egypt has been part of the textile sector for many years, but there are still some gaps to address. However, with the growing interest from manufacturers and the country’s openness to development, I have no doubt that Egypt will make significant progress in the coming years, offering high-quality products to the industry. Furthermore, its customs union agreements with Europe and the U.S. make brands more inclined to source products from this region.
Founded in 2011 in Damietta, Egypt by EroÄŸlu Global Holding, DNM is an innovative denim fabric manufacturer using 100% Turkish capital, focused on sustainability and advanced production technologies. Denimsandjeans welcomes them at the first edition of its Egypt show on Februray 2-3, 2205 at Cairo, Egypt. We recently had a word with Sedat Sualp-Sales and Marketing Director from DNM with below insights.
DNM Denim is a renowned denim mill in Egypt with investment from its parent group Eroglu . How do you see the significance of Egypt increasing for various global brands in near future.
Egypt is becoming an increasingly attractive hub for textile manufacturers for several reasons. The QIZ free trade agreement with the United States, which exempts garments exported to the U.S. from customs duties, makes Egypt a crucial sourcing point for U.S. customers. Transit times to the U.S. and the EU are comparable to those of other Mediterranean countries and significantly shorter for EU customers than for suppliers in the Far East, further reinforcing Egypt’s strategic advantages. Moreover, Egypt’s position as a crossroads between the Far East and Europe enhances its ability to source raw materials and chemicals efficiently . Cost competitiveness is another area where Egypt excels. The country offers lower labour and operating costs compared to other Mediterranean countries and beyond. In addition, the availability of natural energy resources provides further advantages in manufacturing operations.
You are having 100% ZLD on water . It is an amazing sustainability achievement . Besides , what other sustainable initiatives are you proud of?
We’re proud to operate a 100% Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system, which means we recycle all the water we use, achieving an impressive level of sustainability. Beyond this, we’re also actively working to reduce our carbon footprint by increasing clean energy usage. This year, we commissioned both solar and thermal energy systems, which have been instrumental in advancing our sustainability goals. In terms of materials, we are incorporating more alternative fibers into our designs, focusing on recycled materials to lessen our environmental impact. Additionally, we’re making strides in reducing energy, water, and chemical consumption in the garment washing process, supported by our innovative color developments. These steps reflect our commitment to sustainability at every level.
What would be the key collections that you will bring to the Denimsandjeans Egypt show in Feb’25 . Do you see that the European customers are sourcing similar products that they normally want from the Turkish market or do you see Egypt developing a different flavour for the brands.
We see that the same products are being requested, so we will present our SS26 collection.Since this is the SS26 collection, we focused on creating products that offer comfort and ease of use, aligned with the seasonal conditions. Our lightweight fabrics, developed without compromising the authentic denim look, are designed to meet diverse needs with their distinct features. Our rigid, vintage-style fabrics offer comfort while preserving a classic denim appearance, even in hot weather conditions. Meanwhile, our drapey fabrics, with a smoother finish, combine comfort and elegance, offering a wide range of colors and various constructions we believe that timeless denim is a part of sustainability. That’s why, with our Signature concept, we include timeless fabrics in every collection, designed to meet the demands of every fit and style. In addition, our Beyond soft concept is another concept that includes special products that we focus on soft touch
What kind of investments do you feel that might be needed by your group in the near future in Egypt to sustain the growth that may be required. Any plans you would like to share
We already have a capacity expansion plan underway for next year. To better meet the needs of both new and existing customers, DNM is currently increasing its capacity from 2.6 million meters per month to a total of 3.5 million meters per month, with full operational capacity expected by the end of 2025.
Since 1968, Yilmak aims to produce machines with the intent of developing the garment industry. At the very beginning, their target was to produce machines that Yılteks Group exclusively needed, but later on with the experience and know-how they gained, they have not only become the best, but also the largest manufacturer of laundry machines not only in Turkey but the rest of the world as well. Denimsandjeans is welcoming them at the first edition of Egypt on Feb 2-3, 2025 in Cairo. We recently had a word with Furkan Civelek , Sales Director at Yimak about their views on Egypt and their latest innovations.
It’s very good to have you with us in the first Denimsandjeans show in Egypt! What are your expectations from the Egyptian market?
We are excited to participate in the first Denimsandjeans show in Egypt. The Egyptian market is not only a historic center for textile production but also a growing hub for denim manufacturing. We expect to establish stronger relationships with local producers, showcasing YILMAK’s advanced sustainable technologies that align with Egypt’s increasing focus on eco-friendly manufacturing. We believe this market has great potential for sustainable growth, and we aim to support manufacturers by providing solutions that reduce costs and environmental impact, while maintaining top-quality production.
You already have some of the key factories in Egypt using your machines and technology. Why do you think that Egypt deserves more of your sustainability-driven technology?
Egyptian textile manufacturers have embraced our sustainable technologies, but there is still much more potential for expansion. We believe Egypt deserves more of our solutions, as they help the industry achieve higher efficiency and lower resource consumption. For example, our iconic RAINFOREST machine has set a benchmark in sustainable washing, and its latest version, the RAINFOREST GEN2, uses a polymer drum that provides even greater water and energy savings. Additionally, our XDRUM, developed in collaboration with the UK-based XEROS, enables stone-free wash effects, eliminating pumice usage altogether. These innovations empower Egyptian manufacturers to become leaders in sustainable production, meeting global standards while minimizing environmental impact.
We have been talking about various sustainability-driven legislations in the EU and US. How do your machines help producers comply with them?
YILMAK’s machines are designed to meet the strictest international sustainability requirements. For example, the RAINFOREST GEN2 and the HNS ECOFRIENDLY GEN2 dryers are built to drastically reduce energy and water consumption, aiding compliance with EU and US regulations. Our HNS ECOFRIENDLY GEN2 dryers feature automatic filter cleaning and shorter drying cycles, addressing energy efficiency directly, while our high-capacity ozone washing systems offer a chemical-free alternative that aligns perfectly with global sustainability goals. These innovations help producers meet legal requirements while improving product quality and reducing operational costs.
What are the key directions that you see YILMAK moving towards in the near future, and what are your growth plans? Any new technologies that you are working on?
YILMAK’s future is focused on developing and introducing more sustainable, efficient, and innovative solutions to the textile industry. Our new technologies aim to push the boundaries of eco-friendly production. We are committed to promoting our RAINFOREST GEN2, XDRUM, and HNS ECOFRIENDLY GEN2 machines globally, alongside our ozone washing systems, which are integral to sustainable washing. Our growth plans also involve deeper partnerships in strategic markets, continuous innovation, and broader adoption of our sustainable technologies, ensuring we maintain our leading position in the industry.
BluConnection is a leading producer of pre-reduced liquid indigo based out of Singapore. They recently launched a new process called NCD process (Nature Conscious Dyeing) which is based on their pre-reduced liquid Indigo DenimBlu36 AR and BluWit, an organic reducing agent. During the recently held Denimsandjeans Vietnam, we discussed with Alexander to know more about how it will help the industry.
Why did you feel the need to come out with the new NCD process ?
The NCD process (Natural Conscious Dyeing process) came a long way. The introduction of pre-reduced liquid Indigo was a big step forward to improve Indigo dyeing significantly, achieving better control and making it more sustainable. It allows us to reduce the amount of an inorganic, toxic chemical required for the reduction of Indigo (Hydrosulfite) significantly. Until today, a substantial amount of Hydrosulfite is required to keep the Indigo dyeing process stable. Not anymore! Bluwit allows us to replace Hydrosulfite completely, imagine Indigo dyeing without Hydrosulfite!
Hydrosulfite, being the standard reducing agent for the dyeing of Indigo, is contributing to the typical appearance of Denim with dark shades and ring-dyeing effect, yet it is also unstable in solutions and inorganic salt is generated and discharged into the waste water. Finding an alternative for Hydrosulfite which is ecologically sound and performing like Hydrosulfite was driving our team in BluConnection since our inception.
You mentioned that Bluwit is the first organic reducing agent. Can you tell more about it?
It is the first organic reducing agent which produces real denim with authentic washing effect without compromise on dye-build-up and dark shades are achievable with 5-6 dips. This is important for denim mills to be able to produce denim with the same or similar esthetics.
At the same time they can benefit from a reducing agent which is biodegradable in contrast to Hydrosulfite.
With Denimblu36 AR being a pre reduced indigo , what benefits in terms of commercials, sustainability and quality does it offer to mills and downstream garment producers?
We launched DenimBlu36 AR, which is 20% stronger than our original product DenimBlu30, enjoying a good response from the market. We are applying a purification process to reduce aniline. DenimBlu36 AR is our best product, reducing the CO2 footprint, meeting all retailer requirements effortlessly. At the same it is cost efficient. I ask myself, how cost efficient we should be to make everybody in the supply chain happy? – Today the Indigo cost for 1 pair of jeans is 6-9 cents!
When it comes to brands, what kind of advantage does it give them for their sustainability claims ?
Naturally brands can benefit from both our products, DenimBlu36 AR in combination with BluWit, as explained before, ticking all the boxes product wise and manufactured in our new green factory, which was inaugurated in 2022. Our factory is zero discharge, generating the majority of the required energy from solar panels and demonstrating with our “green wall†and green landscape our commitment to people and the environment. In view of upcoming supply chain regulations, it will surely support those brands, retailers and denim mills, who take their commitments towards a sustainable environment and people seriously.

Why do you think sustainability in fibers is getting more important?
In essence, sustainability in fibers is of paramount importance due to the pressing environmental concerns and the depletion of vital resources. Let me elaborate on why this issue holds such significance.
Firstly, natural fibers like cotton, hemp, and jute are cultivated naturally, with minimal environmental impacts, while synthetic fibers often involve resource-intensive processes and contribute to pollution.
Secondly, natural fibers are sourced from renewable materials like plants or wood, making them a sustainable choice that can be replenished, unlike synthetic alternatives.
Moreover, natural fibers are biodegradable, breaking down naturally and reducing waste, unlike synthetic fibers, which persist in the environment for centuries.
Additionally, the production of natural fibers typically requires less energy compared to synthetic fibers, contributing to lower carbon emissions.
Furthermore, the textile industry is recognized as one of the largest contributors to global pollution. Shockingly, 92 million tons of textile waste is generated annually worldwide, with 87% of clothing materials and fibers ending up in incinerators or landfills. This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need for sustainable measures within the industry.
To address this waste issue, the textile industry must transition towards sustainable practices, embracing the principles of the 3Rs: reusing, recycling, and reducing. By implementing these measures, we can mitigate the environmental impact of textile production and contribute to a more sustainable future.
How does iTextiles® try to bring more focus to sustainable fibers?
iTextiles® is committed to championing sustainability by continuously evolving and expanding our portfolio to include a wide range of sustainable fibers. Our efforts extend not only within the Pakistani manufacturing industry but also to international brands, promoting the widespread adoption of sustainable practices.
Here’s an overview of our Sustainable Fiber Portfolio:
Natural Fibers: We prioritize renewable inputs, including sustainable Hemp fiber, Linen, and LYCRA® fiber made with QIRA®, harnessing the power of nature for eco-friendly textile production.
Recycled Fibers: Embracing the circular economy, we utilize recycled content in our fibers:

Hence, we offer solutions like LYCRA® Adaptiv®, LYCRA® Freefit, LYCRA® Antislip®, DYNEEMA®, CORDURA®, PROTEX®, and more, enhancing the longevity of garments and minimizing environmental impact through extended product lifespan.
By prioritizing sustainable fibers and durability solutions, iTextiles® is dedicated to fostering a more environmentally conscious textile industry, paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future.
We thank you for joining the Denimsandjeans event for the first time . Why do you think Vietnam is important as a market? What products would you like to promote in this market
Vietnam has indeed emerged as a significant player in the global economy, drawing attention from businesses worldwide. There are several reasons why Vietnam holds importance as a market:
Firstly, Vietnam displays one of Southeast Asia’s most rapidly growing economies. Its openness to trade and investment, combined with its comparative advantage in low-cost labor, has been instrumental in propelling its economic trajectory.
Secondly, Vietnam has been proactive in establishing bilateral trade agreements with countries across the globe in recent years, further enhancing its position as a vital market for international businesses.
Moreover, Vietnam’s demographics are compelling, with a large population of nearly 100 million consumers, half of whom are under the age of thirty. This demographic profile, coupled with a rising middle class, sets the stage for sustained growth in the coming decades.
Additionally, Vietnam has established itself as a manufacturing hub, particularly in sectors like electronics and textiles, contributing significantly to its economic expansion.
In a nutshell, Vietnam’s economic dynamism, robust trade relations, growing GDP, political stability, and demographic potential collectively render it an attractive market for businesses seeking growth opportunities in Asia.
As for iTextiles®, we aim to promote our entire product portfolio in Vietnam, with a particular focus on our yarns and fabrics. Given Vietnam’s promising textile industry and its role as a manufacturing hub, we believe our high-quality yarns and fabrics will resonate well with the market, catering to the diverse needs of manufacturers and consumers alike.
How do you see Pakistan evolving in near future in all aspects of denim production, particularly concerning sustainability?
Well, looking ahead, I see Pakistan continuing its impressive journey in denim production, with a strong emphasis on sustainability. Over the past decade, Pakistan has swiftly emerged as a key Denim Hub in the region, supplying top-notch denim to leading global brands. Currently, it ranks among the top three denim manufacturers in Asia, which speaks volumes about its growing influence in the industry.
Our denim exports are thriving, with major markets like Bangladesh, Turkey, and others relying on Pakistan for quality denim fabrics. We have a robust infrastructure comprising numerous denim mills and factories, thanks to our rich history in textile manufacturing.
In recent years, Pakistan’s denim industry has experienced remarkable growth, driven by factors such as our vast labor force, competitive pricing, and favorable trade agreements with key markets like the US and the EU.
As we delve deeper into sustainability within the denim segment, it’s noteworthy to mention the increasing utilization of recycled materials, including fiber, yarn, and fabric, in the production of new denim products. Statistics reveal that the global upcycled denim products market size was valued at $392.5 million in 2021 and is projected to reach $838.6 million by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 7.9% from 2022 to 2031. These figures underscore the growing importance and economic potential of sustainable practices within the denim industry.
Sustainability has now become a crucial focus for Pakistan Industry. As the industry embraces eco-conscious practices and innovations, Pakistan is prepared to lead the charge in sustainable denim production. This commitment aligns with our goal of not only maintaining our position in the global denim landscape but also ensuring a greener, more responsible future for the industry.

Metod Makine has been dealing with the production of denim jeans dry process machines and equipments since 2002. . It creates solutions for the textile industry to reflect the final images of current fashion trends on products. We welcome them in our 6th edition of Denimsandjeans Vietnam show on June 26-27 and spoke with Ismail Cakal on what are the latest technologies that they are working on and bringing to the show.
Metod Makine has been providing denim processing machineries to the industry for over 20 years now. How has been your growth in these years?
We as Metod Makine stepped into the sector in 2002 with an uninterrupted and quality service approach. We started to produce Spray Application Cabinets and supply some accessories in the first years. Over time, we added Curing Ovens, 3D Crinkle Effect Machines and Apparatus, and many other Dry Process Equipments to our product range. In 2006 we made our first export to Pakistan. Market share has gradually increased at both domestic and international markets over the years thanks to the quality of the machines that we produced and the after-sales service that we gave. In addition to the upgrading & improving the existing machines with the feedback that we received from end users, we also contributed some new equipments to the sector with our innovative vision. In 2019, Metod Makine became the 3rd company that produces its own Robot in the world by using its own capital. We still continue to serve to our existing and new customers with Wet Process Machineries and Ozone Application Systems. So far we have successed to export our machines over 40 countries. We keep going on visiting new customers and participating in fairs in target markets in order to increase this number every year
How do you think the requirements of brands are changing and how are you adapting your machinery for the same.
There is no doubt that, like everything else, fashion changes over time and new trends come out. This situation is directly reflected in our dressing style in daily life. Perhaps we can say that the changes in our daily lives force brands to make changes in this direction. For instance, in recent years we have experienced a pandemic that affected us all. With the remote working method that the pandemic process brought to our lives, the dress code has been eliminated and people have gotten used to dressing more comfortably. To give an example from the sector we serve, we see that especially young people prefer more comfortable dresses such as jogger & sweat pants, loose and wide-cut clothes instead of denim jeans. Inevitably, this change in dressing preferences lead brands to produce in this direction. As a textile machinery manufacturer, we follow the brands closely. In this regard, we constantly keep ourselves informed of developments by the feedback that we receive from our customers and by fair visits that shape the future of our industry.
Why do you think Vietnam is an important market and how do you see its growth over the next few years?
If we evaluate in terms of textile sector, it is one of the important sources of income of the country, along with the agriculture, construction, mining and oil sectors. With its young and dynamic population, it has a very good production potential not only for local brands but also for international brands in terms of workforce. We think that the increase in production capacities, especially with the commercial agreements made with USA and EU, will increase the need for machinery, which are the main investment products. For this reason, Vietnam is an important country that we follow closely.
Investment in sustainability is definitely good but do you think that with brands not able to pay extra prices, manufacturers like yours can help the garment producers in some way to overcome their challenges.
Unfortunately, some fragile economies, including Turkiye, were greatly affected by the economic difficulties experienced after the pandemic. As a sustainable machinery manufacturer, our production costs have inevitably increased due to increasing costs such as labor, energy, materials, logistics, etc. Despite the factors such as high costs and increasing competition, we are carrying out certain studies to ensure that our products reach more users. In addition to giving our customers the best possible price, we can also offer payment terms that vary depending on the total sales amount. For this purpose we benefit from the services of Turkish Eximbank to support our customers.
What are your expectations from Denimsandjeans Show in Vietnam
We see this 2-day of show as an opportunity to meet with participants from both Vietnam and nearby countries and to share latest trends, technologies and solutions.
Pioneer Denim is on the way to be the largest denim mill in Bangladesh with about 9 million yards capacity per month. Besides, they have also entered the garmenting space and target to reach about 3 Lakh garments per month – making them perhaps the biggest in Bangladesh in next few years. What are your most exciting products which shall be focusing on showcasing at our Denimsandjeans Show in India and which you feel will be interesting for Indian consumers.
Pioneer Denim has always been a sustainability driven venture focusing on innovation, high quality, product diversity and most importantly speed to market in this fast fashion oriented arena. In the upcoming show, we hope to showcase products with variations in traditional Indigo of denim, true Black, quick wash, laser friendly, different advanced ecological dyed products, innovations in product finishes with improved hand feel, performance and looks.
How are you able to manage the sustainability initiatives in such an operation successfully? What are the key ones you feel have made a difference.
Now all talk about sustainability but only few denim manufacturers have embraced the concept as much as Pioneer Denim. Sustainability is the core of Pioneer Denim. Since our inception in 2017, we had started as the largest LEED Platinum Certified denim production facility in the world and gradually achieved the Cradle to Cradle GOLD certification as the first denim mill in Bangladesh. Circular economy is the most important aspect for a manufacturer as it reduces use of natural resources, waste production by recycling existing resources and contribute to reduction in carbon footprints, which is the ultimate goal.
We have been constantly working on incorporating new sustainable product blends like bamboo, pineapple, jute, etc. while ensuring ‘second life’ of denim by using significant amount of recycled fibers (both pre and post-consumer) in all our products. However, as a fabric mill we understand that including sustainable contents in products is not the only option to offer sustainable products as it has significant cost implications for the end-consumers. Addressing this issue and being a responsible fabric mill, we have been constantly working with different global sustainable bodies and companies to bring additional sustainable features in our production processes. As a result, we have adopted various ecological dyeing-finishing processes that ensure significantly lesser use of resources (water, gas, electricity), less amount of discharge for ETP to process, products with quicker wash processes while having same product aesthetics and hand feels.
In Pioneer Denim, we have embedded sustainability at the core of our genes and hence we are constantly adopting new ventures that ultimately take us to ‘circular economy’ with least carbon foot-prints while producing the best quality pair of jeans.
How do you see the markets in Europe and the US moving in recent times? Does Indian market movement reflect similar directions?
Global apparel & textiles markets are highly responsive to any change whether its weather, war, pandemic or market inflation. In recent times, we have seen a drastic drop in US business, which had been catering the largest denim volumes for years and till date the business volume has not been picked up to satisfactory level even. On the other hand, we have seen sudden influx of denim business from EU brands retailers since last two seasons due to their changes in business policy and resource availability. This shift of EU business has become the survival for the manufacturers. We have also observed high performance of EU brands in US markets because of fast fashions and the right products for the Gen-Z, who are the major market driver now. Product shelf lives have been reduced leading to shortest possible production lead-time. Earning a dollar faster than competitors is much more important than earning more at this moment. EU brands and retailers have successfully adopted this business model and hence, EU based businesses are expected to grow further even in USA.
India market dynamics has also seen a major shift. High value-high quality fashions are growing faster than the mass volumes. Apparel market has been seeing constant growth and it will continue to grow further. In India, local brands and retailers are outperforming the global brands as they have successfully identified and catering the emerging markets with right products. Being such a big consumer market, India market performance is also a major market driver for the global apparel industry.
In current market situation, quick fashion is the key driver. Developing tomorrow’s product today and delivering it before the consumer before they could identify their need for it is the success. And for this, continuous innovation, shorter production lead time, infrastructure to support quick market needs will play the major role of business success in this challenging apparel and textiles market.

How have you seen the apparel world change in the past covid scenario and how do you see the changes affecting garment washing in the near future.
In the post-COVID scenario, the apparel world has experienced significant shifts, particularly in consumer behavior, supply chain dynamics, and manufacturing practices. There are some changings likely to impact garment washing in some ways:
Shift to Casual and Comfortable Clothing: With more people working from home and socializing in relaxed settings, there has been a notable increase in demand for casual and comfortable clothing, including denim. This trend towards casualization could influence the types of denim garments being produced and subsequently washed in industrial facilities, with a focus on softer finishes and comfortable fits.
Sustainability Considerations:Environmental sustainability has become a key priority for many consumers and brands in the post-COVID era. Garment washing processes typically involve significant water, chemical, and energy usage, which can have negative environmental impacts. As a result, there may be growing pressure on manufacturers to adopt more sustainable washing practices, such as water-saving techniques, eco-friendly chemicals, and alternative application methods.
Supply Chain Disruptions: The pandemic exposed vulnerabilities in global supply chains, prompting many apparel brands to reassess their sourcing and manufacturing strategies. This could lead to changes in where denim garments are produced and washed, with a potential shift towards more regionalized or localized manufacturing to mitigate supply chain risks and reduce transportation emissions.

Co-founder & CEO of AMA Herbal Mr Yawer Ali Shah has come a long way after investing his life’s 25+ precious years in bringing natural dyes to the driving seat in the textile industry. His innovative approach to green climate solutions is reflected in his products and methodologies. Our team talked with him over his Biochemically modified pre-reduced natural indigo which he will be showcasing in India show on May 15-16 in Bangalore.
Congratulations on launching the 1st ever Biochemically modified pre-reduced natural indigo globally !! We were delighted to have this launch at our Japan show. Can you share more about your journey towards making this product?
AMA Herbal is thankful for this commendable gesture from you. It was an honour to unveil this futuristic innovation on such a grand platform witnessed by eminent names of the denim world.
Whenever we were going to sell Bio Indigo in the powder form, which is the old and traditional product we have been supplying for so many years to the denim industry, they were always saying that we have pre-reduced synthetic indigo now, which makes our life easier, it is easy to use, and we have established our line. If you do your product in liquid form, we will be glad to use it. However, we were unable to stabilize our product, we have been working for many years on it.
Now we have established our process. After the extraction of Indigo from the leaves in the reduced form, before oxidizing it to convert it into the powder, we stabilize it by adding some Bacteria & Fungi into it and reaching the optimal reduction where it is biologically fully reducedand modified to be sold as Per-Reduced Natural Indigo. We stabilize the product with eco-friendly stabilizers, and that’s how the product is manufactured.
AMA Herbal is the leading manufacturer & exporter of the Extract form of Bio Indigo® (Natural Indigo) & its cultivation as backward integration. What makes AMA Herbal keep its momentum and keep going up?
Bio Indigo® is extracted from the leaves of a plant named Indigofera Tinctoria. Therefore, lots of cultivation of the plant is needed. When we did our LCA Study, we found that we were positive in every aspect compared to synthetic indigo, except one. A lot of water consumption for indigo cultivation is a global concern.
We brought our innovative approach to the driving seat for the solution. We did our best by employing Sprinkler Irrigation Systems. We reduced water consumption by 60-70% by bringing these systems into action, which is a considerable reduction.
We are now focusing on controlling the cultivation processes where we will be doing this as a Sprinkler Irrigation Systems, reducing the water consumption. We are planning to convert these lands into Certified Organic to sell the indigo as Certified Natural Indigo for the first time.
We thank you for joining the Denims and jeans India show in 2024. Why do you think that the brands in India should ask their supply chain to use more natural dyes and what are the constraints?
We use Indigo leaves as a raw material for extracting the Bio Indigo®. It generates employment opportunities for deprived people engaged in collecting raw materials.
Indigo is a “Farmer-oriented” crop that lays the foundation of sustainable earnings for farmers. They are benefiting monetarily, and the soil fertility of their farms has improved due to the legume nature of the Indigo plant.
This crop has the potential to be the next cash crop, and many farmers have benefited in monetary terms and social terms through indigo farming. So, when Indian brands use our dye, they are supporting farmers.
Synthetic Indigo manufacturing up to the making of denim produces a lot of carbon footprint. We are much better when it is compared to the LCA Study. So, if Indian brands and the other brands of the world are looking to make their products sustainable, natural dyes make a lot of sense.
Therefore, natural dyes should be preferred with more conviction, and brands should introduce them to their regular products. It is how sustainability can be attained in the long run.
Do you see any particular differences in the markets like India, Europe, US etc. How do you handle the differing requirements of these markets?
Yes, there is a difference in the sentiments of the products. In India, we have a good market, but the number is less because people are price-conscious.
Whereas, in the US and Europe, they are not as price-conscious as you find in the Indian region. Europe has come up with a regulation where they are asking about the reduction in the carbon footprints and they are going to come up with a specific level which is reducing carbon footprints. India hasn’t any such plan yet.
Therefore, sentimentally Europe and the US will be quicker towards natural and sustainable products, that’s what we have experienced and that is why we have been exporting more than 70% of our production. India is consuming less, though it is a manufacturing hub.
However, with the change in scenario, we have seen some leading Indian brands like Aditya Birla and many others focusing on natural products, particularly the products manufactured in India. It is indicating good growth in India coming soon.
How are the sustainability regulations coming up in various western countries affecting the entire supply chains and would it propel them towards more natural ingredients?
Carbon saving is a big focus in the international scenario. The European Union is about to launch a label, especially for the carbon footprints that they contain. So with all these regulations coming up very strongly, we see natural products’ promotion grandly.
However, at the same time, the natural products should be performing. They shouldn’t be just having a tag of carbon saving but not performing as they are supposed to be.
The performance of the natural product is equally important. I am sure that natural products have a bright future along with a terrific increase in their global acceptance & immaculate performance.
