    • Rust dust, the re-interpretation of familiar heroes and the hand worked heritage items
    • And also non- denim that offers a selection of whites and ecrus that all deliver the same premium feeling. The winter whites is an in thing and we are offering a wide selection of twills, weights, compositions, and constructions here.

More Jeans In The US Wardrobes : NPD Study

The new report by US-based NPD Group stated the increase in the Jeans market in the USA in 12 months ending in February 2019. The women in the US are making space in their closets that is evident from their purchase of 22 million more pieces in 2018 as compared to in 2017. A total of 364 million pairs of women’s jeans were purchased in the U.S with more than half purchased on sale. Marshal Cohen, the chief industry advisor for The NPD Group, said:

“The recent growth in women’s jeans is good news for the industry—women want to wear more than just leggings and yoga pants,But, the emphasis on quantity and discounting means marketers need to find new ways to inspire the women’s jeans consumer, and deliver product that compels them to take their purchase to the next level.”

Off-price unit and dollar sales are both up almost 30 percent in the 12 months ending February 2019 – now representing 17 percent of unit sales and driving the majority of women’s jeans growth. The specialty store channel, which includes retailers like American Eagle, H&M, and TopShop, accounts for over a third of women’s jeans annual sales and experienced unit growth of 6 percent compared to the previous 12 months. This makes the jeans a primary reason for shopping for women.

Though there is a decline in the in-store sales of women’s jeans sold, online sales are driving the increase of 32 % in the number of jeans purchased through e-commerce means since 12 months. According to the NPD’s Checkout E-commerce information reveals, online women’s jeans buyers are also spending more and purchasing more frequently. The average online annual spend per buyer on women’s jeans was 4 percent higher than the previous year, and they purchase women’s jeans on average of twice a year. Chen also added,

“The denim consumer has changed.Manufacturers and retailers are now faced with the challenge of strengthening the consumer’s passion for jeans to ensure they are more than a commodity in their eyes.”

Let’s have the look at the percentage increase in various indexes in the jeans market of US for 12 months statistically:

Kassim at the 4th edition of Denimsandjeans Vietnam Show

  • 4th Edition Of Denimsandjeans Vietnam Brings Focus On Sustainability

4th Edition Of Denimsandjeans Vietnam Brings Focus On Sustainability

The 3rd edition of Denimsandjeans in Vietnam was a successful event with over 45 exhibitors and global visitors from over 300 companies. The show has become a focal point of the denim industry in Vietnam and the next edition coming up on June 12-13, 2019 is expected to bring renewed interest especially in terms of new treaties being signed by the country.

My Earth My Denim – 4th Edition Of Denimsandjeans Vietnam

Sustainability is the need of the hour and companies have been hugely investing to create a pool of sustainable assets to save the environment and promote sustainability in the denim industry. Leading retailers including C&A, H&M, and PVH have been keeping very high standards for sustainability enabling and forcing the suppliers to take adequate measures to ensure absolute sustainability at different stages of production.

Vietnam is showing great promise because of its increasing importance due to various pacts and there are several trade agreements and treaties lined up in Vietnam with countries and group of countries and implementation of which will surely lead to a massive growth in the apparel productions and exports and that is why the entire narrative of SUSTAINABILITY becomes very relevant for Vietnam.

With an objective to take this entire discussion of SUSTAINABILITY one step ahead, Denimsandjeans has themed its Vietnam edition  MY EARTH MY DENIM. Vietnam is fortunate to have started its denim industry in a very balanced way where sustainable production has been ensured in many ways due to local govt laws. This also helped and pushed the industry to invest in machines and equipment which could help make a minimum impact on the environment. With a little more push and knowledge, the industry is expected to be one of the most sustainable globally.

Denimsandjeans show in 2018 enabled a number of important companies to visit the show and included some global buyers from US ,EU, Hongkong,Korea,Taiwan and Japan like VF, Levi’s , GAP, American Eagle, JC Penny, A&F, Lifung, Walmart, Yagi , PVH, Hermes , Target, MGF, H&M ,Mast, Coach , G Star ,S Oliver, Camaieu, Uniqlo, Debenhams,Marks & Spencer, Gloria Jeans, Itochu, Toray and buyers from many other companies visited the show and expressed their satisfaction and found it a very important platform to meet all the denim supply chain partners at one place .  This year there is much more interest in Vietnam as the CPTPP treaty has already kicked in and EVFTA with EU is expected to go on stream. The post-show report of the 3rd edition can be seen here.

Sandeep Agarwal, founder Denimsandjeans says “ Our Vietnam show has been going from strength to strength and we have been steadily getting into the calendars of different buyers who wish to source denims from Vietnam. We also see increased interest from more Vietnamese garment companies to be at the platform to reach out to the buyers and that is why a number of garment companies from Vietnam will be there at the show to cater to visiting international buyers.  Besides the Vietnam specific collections by our local and global exhibitors, talks by global experts at our shows are also greatly appreciated by the local visitors .

So on the whole, we see that Mexico has imported about 13 million sq mtrs in 2 months which comes to an annual imports of about 80 million sq mtrs. China is ruling this market on base of low price. However, slowly the grip of China on the market will go down as the costs go up in China and supply comes from other countries as well. US used to be a large supplier but since only one mill is left in US now, the imports from US have come down.

Rising Indian Imports Of Denim Garments 2018 – Part I

India is expected to become the world’s fastest growing e-commerce market, driven by robust investment in the sector and a rapid increase in the number of internet users. Various agencies have high expectations about the growth of Indian e-commerce markets. Indian e-commerce sales are expected to reach US$ 100 billion by 2020 from US$ 30 billion in FY2016. Further, India’s e-commerce market is expected to reach US$ 220 billion in terms of gross merchandise value (GMV) and 530 million shoppers by 2025, led by faster speeds on reliable telecom networks, faster adoption of online services and better variety as well as convenience. The Government of India has taken various initiatives to improve the retail industry in India due to which many international brands have made their debut in the Indian market in the past few years.

Retailers including H&M, GAP, Inditex, Adidas, Puma, and Walmart have already shared their expansion plans in India which indicates the huge potential of the Indian apparel industry. The leading Japanese retailer – Uniqlo is opening its first showroom in India next year, H&M – one of the worlds biggest clothing retailers, is targetting to open 50 showrooms by the mid of 2019 and GAP is expecting to add 50 more showrooms in India. India stands 2nd globally when it comes to consumption of Jeans. The domestic market of India is big and so is the production. However, India is still importing a considerable amount of Denim Garment from overseas also and the post-GST (VAT introduction) retailers based in India and overseas have been keen to import from the neighboring countries who are enjoying duty privileges from India. There are a series of treaties which are expected to be signed in the coming years which might add to the increase in imports of garments.

In this report, we’ve listed top 10 denim garment importers in India for the period covering early Dec’17 to early Dec’18 and analyzed the volume and average price along with the countries from where they are buying. 1. Denim Fabric Export By EU To Morocco | 2015-2018

Morocco imported more than 5 million sq mtrs of denim in 2017. This year, till September, we can see that the imports are about 4 million sq mtrs which would roughly be about more than 5 million sq mtrs by the end of the year bringing the imports at similar levels as last year.  However, we can also see that the imports in 2016 were much lesser and year 2017 and 2018 have been better – indicating that production is not slipping .

The average price was maximum in 2017 at about 7 Euros, but it seems have slipped to about 6.8 Euros this year. Not a big change, but a fall nevertheless.  However, if we consider that these prices are actually sq mtr prices and if we take linear mtr prices, it might actually be about 10 Euros per mtr, we will understand that the fabrics are actually very expensive.  But most of these fabrics are European and hence cannot be cheap.

    2. Denim Fabric Export By EU To Tunisia | 2015-2018

In 2015, the total quantity of denim fabric imported by Tunisia was 12.5 million sq. mtrs. which increased in the subsequent years. The denim fabric import was recorded as 12.8 million sq mtrs in 2016 which increased by almost 1 million sq mtrs in 2017 showing the significant growth within 1 year. On the whole the quantities are more or less stagnant and show that there is no real growth in fabrics being shipped to Tunisia and that garmenting for European fabrics is not witnessing an upsurge. However it also shows that Tunisia gets more than double the fabric from EU than Morocco.

The trend of the average price across the period 2015-2018 increased consistently showing a rising trend.T he average price was 6.9 euros per sq mtrs in 2015 whereas it has reached upto 8.1 euros per sq. mtrs. till september 2018 – a decent increase.  It also shows that Tunisia is getting more expensive fabrics than Morocco on an average indicating that more fashionable final apparel is being produced in Tunisia.

EU Increasing Its Denim Jeans Exports From 2015-18

EU is well known as the major importer of denim jeans from around the world. In fact it is now importing much more jeans than the US  and is expected to keep on growing its imports. However, what is relatively less known, the EU is also exporting a huge quantity of jeans. Many of these jeans are either locally produced in countries like Italy, Portugal, Spain or Eastern Europe and a large part of these are also reimported jeans which had been brought from different regions. It would be interesting to study how EU has fared in terms of its exports of jeans in the last 3 years in terms of both Men and Women jeans, the quantities, average prices etc for the same etc. Let’s check out the report.

US Shows 5 Percent Growth In Imports of Denim In 2018

Denim industry, looking for a good news for sometime, finally seems to have some. The denim apparel imports into US showed a 6% growth in 2018 . Since the beginning of this year , we have been witnessing growth in imports and the pace has picked up in the second quarter. This growth is specially interesting as it comes on top of an increase in average price of imports by over 4% . Since the year 2010 when the imports into US were at their peak , the market has slackened and could never attain that peak. Year 2018 is again showing a shimmer of hope that the US market might finally be on strong positive path and try to cross milestones it did in last decade.

The US economy is seeing its strongest growth in many decades – it grew 4.2% in 2nd Quarter of 2018 . The growth is likely to be strong in the near future as per most experts.   The strengthening US$ has also added to the improved situation of imports making it easier for the buyers to get a better price and sellers to realize better margins.  On the whole, a positive situation for the global denim industry specially considering that EU market is also going strong !
