73% Of Colombian Denim Imports Comes From India In May 2020

The growth trend of India is at a great pace, after successful March & April’20, India showed encouraging trend in the month of May’2020 in the Colombian Denim Imports. India once again beat other countries during the pandemic times to be the largest exporter of denim fabrics to Colombia during May 2020.

We analyze the same in this report besides listing major denim fabric importers in COLOMBIA during May 2020 and analyzed the volume and average price along with the countries from where they are buying. A comparison of the import trend for March-May’19 and March-May’20 has been also made. The contents of this report are as below:

TOP COUNTRIES SUPPLYING DENIM FABRICS TO COLOMBIA

In the month of May 2020, Colombia has imported approx. 2.40 million sqm of denim fabrics.

With 1.75 million sqm of denim fabric export, India strongly positioned itself as #1 exporter to Colombia during May 2020 however CHINA, which happened to be the biggest exporter of Denim Fabric to Colombia, continues to lose its share and now with 15% share, it is at #2 during May’20.

China exported 3.49 lacs sqm of denim fabrics at an average price of $1.6/sqm.

As far as the average price is concerned, Indiaâ€™s average price turned to be the most competitive amongst all at $1.15/sq mtr. Turkey exported the fabric at the most expensive average price of USD 3.91/Sqm.

India is at #1 with 72.3% share and China slipped to #2 with a substantial fall and its share reached up to 14.9%, 10 % down from March-April’20.

TOP DENIM IMPORTING COMPANIES OF COLOMBIA

So far as the import of denim fabric by different companies are concerned, JOHN URIBE and COMERCIALIZADORA SADA are the biggest importers of denim fabric into Colombia with the total import of 0.53 million sqm and 0.47 million sqm of denim fabric respectively. JOHN URIBE is the buyer which has imported the denim fabrics at the most expensive average price i.e., $1.46/sqm even though being the biggest importer.

2020 V. 2019 Comparative Analysis on Import Trend

The COVID affect looks very apparent once we analyse the import figures of Mar-May for both the years. In 2020, Import witnessed a fall of approx. 49%, meaning the business is slashed by half due to global lockdown and restricted movement.

However, one more important outcome of this analysis is that, China has been losing its share to Colombian Denim Export very brutally. China’s share has taken a toll, a total fall of 77% within a year is massive. China’s loss became India’s gain and the country managed to increase its penetration from 25% to 60% within a year.

All the other countries have experience the substantial fall in their share with India being a sole exception.

India beats other countries during the pandemic times to be the largest exporter of denim fabrics to Colombia during March- April 2020. TOP 10 COUNTRIES SUPPLYING DENIM FABRICS TO COLOMBIA

In the month of March-April 2020, Colombia has imported approx. 5.76 million sqm of denim fabrics.

CHINA, which was the biggest exporter of Denim Fabric to Colombia, came at #2 during March-April 2020. China exported 1.44 million sqm of denim fabrics at an average price of $1.54/sqm however India on the other hand with 54.46% share came at #1 with a volume of 3.14 million sqm of denim fabric at a very low price of $1.20 / sqm. Mexico comes a distant third followed by Brazil , Pakistan etc.

As far as the average price is concerned, India’s average price turned to be the most competitive amongst all. Mexico exported the fabric at the most expensive average price of USD 2.42/Sqm.

India became #1 with 54% share and China slipped to #2 with a substantial fall and its share reached up to 25%

TOP 10 DENIM IMPORTING COMPANIES OF COLOMBIA

So far as the import of denim fabric by different companies are concerned, COLOMBIANA DE COMERCIO SA and JOHN URIBE E HIJOS SA are the biggest importers of denim fabric into Colombia with the total import of 0.88 million sqm and 0.54 million sqm of denim fabric respectively. PERMODA LTDA is the buyer which has imported the denim fabrics at the most expensive average price i.e., $2.55/sqm.

Out of many suppliers, Sangam from India emerged as the biggest supplier with the export volume of 419,929 sqm and MANOMAY TEX is the second biggest supplier from India with the total volume of 174,512 sqm. The average price at which Sangam India supplied was $1.09/sqm and Manomay Tex supplied at $1.05/sqm.

Colombian Denim Buyers In Aug-Sept. 2017

Colombia has been known for its innovation in the denim world and constantly investing its resources in R&D to bring new innovation in line with global trends. The country has over 12Â trade agreements which allows this country a preferential access to EU , Canada and Mexico . The country is under negotiation to sign a bilateral trade agreement with Japan and Turkey also. The country is demographically rich and thus enjoying the demographical dividend due to its proximity to Panama Canal which paves a smooth connection between the East Coast of the U.S. and Asia.

Top 10 denim buyers Of Colombia DuringÂ August- September 2017Â

DuringÂ the month of August â€“ September 2017 , Top 10 buyers of Colombia imported 2.37 Million Sq. Meter of Denim Fabric out of which 495,857 Sq. Meter imported by Colombian Trade SA at an average price of USD 1.02/ Sq. Meter which is a very low price. StilotexÂ is the second biggest buyer which imported 399,522 Sq. Meter of Denim at an average price of USD 1.74/Sq.Meter. We must remember when we look at prices of imports into Colombia . Sometimes, they do not reflect the actual price as for custom duty avoidance , some buyers show less price than actual . Also since the prices are in sq mtrs, the actual price per mtr can be much higher if the width is 150 cm or more.

Colombia Top Denim Importers | May-July 2017

Colombia seems to have imported about 4.2 million sq mtrs of denim in May- July period which gives an average of about 1.4 million sq mtrs. This qty is lesser than the average of April when the imports were over 2 million sq mtrs. It remains to be seen how they fare the rest of the year.

Colombia Denim Importers : 2014

Colombia is the third largest economy in the South America , recently beating Argentina , and is quite developed when it comes to its textile industry and its taste for fashion . A number of countries around the world export denim fabrics to Columbia. We look at some information regarding such imports in first quarter of 2014:

The main buyers of denim who imported denim in this period.
The approx idea of quantities that they bought.
Average prices at which they bought.
The countries from where such purchases were done.
Contact details on over 20 such buyers.

The indicative quantities imported into Columbia , on which information is available , is about 4 million sq mtrs in the months of Feb and March â€˜14. These quantities are not absolute ie may not cover all quantities imported , hence the actual imports could be higher. The average prices of such imports was about USD 2.68/sq mtr . In the table below, we are showing the details of some of the major buyers of denim fabrics in Colombia in the months of Feb and Marchâ€™14. The approx quantities purchased by them are given alongwith the average prices at which they bought per sq mtr. We have also converted these prices in linear mtr taking an average width of 150 cm â€“ to give a fair idea of the prices. Also given are the major countries from where they buy such fabrics.
