    COUNTRIES SUPPLYING DENIM FABRICS TO MEXICO DURING FEB. & MARCH 2021


    During Feb and March’21 , Mexico has imported approx. 17 million sqm of denim fabrics . CHINA is the biggest exporter of Denim Fabric to Mexico with a total volume of about 14 million sqm at an average price of USD 1/sqm. INDIA is the 2nd biggest denim supplier which exported 2 million sqm of denim fabric at an average price of USD 0.76/sqm. Thus China still controls about 84% of the market !

    (Note: this data has been captured from various govt organizations including customs. the actual imports are likely to be higher than this figure. Also, we need to understand that the prices are sometimes not correct representations as in Mexico there are many suppliers under reporting the actual price for custom benefits )

    TOP COMPANIES IMPORTING DENIM IN MEXICO

    So far as the import of denim fabric by different companies are concerned, LUCIOS DE MEXICO S. DE R.L. DE C.V. and SAMPLEXSA DE CV are the two biggest importers of denim fabric into Mexico with a total import of approx. 5 million sqm and 2 million sqm of denim fabric respectively.

    So far as the export of denim fabric by different companies are concerned, Chinese companies are ruling the list. ZHEJIANG SANSEN TEXTILE CO LTD and ZHEJIANG TENGMA TEXTILE CO. LTD. are the two biggest exporters of denim fabric to Mexico with a total export of approx. 3 million sqm and 1.5 million sqm of denim fabric respectively.

It has supplied 1.8 million sqm of denim fabric with the avg. price of USD 1.38, SHAOXING KEQIAO is the 2nd biggest supplier to Lucios which supplied 0.6 million sqm of denim fabric with the avg. price of USD 1.21.

    Countries Supplying Denim Fabrics To Indonesia In March & April 2021

    In the month of March & April 2021, Indonesia imported approx. 2.2 million meters of denim fabrics. , and the table for details is given below .

    CHINA is the biggest exporter of Denim Fabric to Indonesia with a total volume of about 1.2 million meters, which comprises a 55.7% share in total import of denim of Indonesia during March and April 2021.

    Hongkong with a 22.81% share is the 2nd largest exporting country to Indonesia during this period – this effectively means that China controls about 77% of the market. Also we can see that the average prices of denim fabric coming into Indonesia from China or HK is not bad. Pakistan contributed 17.54% quantity  as well.

    Companies Importing Denim In Indonesia

    So far as the import of denim fabric by different companies are concerned, PT. Sandang Asa Maju Abadi  and PT Sai Apparel Industries are the two biggest importers of denim fabric in Indonesia with a total import of 6.41 lacs meters and 3.3 lacs meters of denim fabric respectively in this period. The average price for PT Sandang Asia is very high at $3.34/meter.

    TOP COUNTRIES SUPPLYING DENIM FABRICS TO COLOMBIA

    During Jan 2021- Feb 2021, Colombia has imported approx. 12 million sqm of denim fabrics.

    INDIA  is the biggest exporter of Denim Fabric to Mexico with a total volume of about 5.3 million sqm at an average price of USD 1.12/sqm. CHINA is the 2nd biggest denim supplier which exported about 4.7 million sqm denim fabric at an average price of USD 1.56/sqm. So here it looks like China’s fabric is much more expensive than that of India.

    So far as the import of denim fabric by different companies are concerned, JOHN URIBE and SURTIJEANS SA are the biggest importers of denim fabric into Colombia with a total import of about 2.1 million sqm and 0.9  million sqm of denim fabric respectively. PERMODA LTDA is the buyer which has imported the denim fabrics at the most expensive average price i.e., $2.06/sqm.

    In this report, a detailed analysis has been done of total denim imports into US from different countries in the first quarters of 2019, 2020, and 2021 each. As we check the quantum of imports of denim jeans into US over the first quarter of three years, we find how the quantity went down in 2020 and then recovered in 2021 – providing positive signals to the industry.

    1.TOTAL IMPORTS IN FIRST QUARTER OF 2019, 2020 AND 20201

    Total imports of denim in the 1st quarter of 2019, 2020 and 2021 was 280 million pieces with an avg. price of USD 8.16. Highest imports of denim in last three years was in 2019 of 102 million pieces which fell to 86 million pieces in 2020 because of the pandemic. But now the situation is getting better and we can see that impact in the first quarter of 2021 Denim imports rose to 93 million pieces with the avg. price of USD 7.9 . The price is still subdued due to the consumer sentiment but expected to improve over the year .

    2.COUNTRYWISE DENIM IMPORTS IN 2019 IN THE FIRST QUARTER

    The total import of denim in 2019 in the first quarter was 102 million pieces at an average price of USD 8.25. China and Mexico exported the highest number of denim with a total volume of about 23.02 million pieces at an average price of 8.21 and 22 million pieces at an avg. price of 8.83 respectively. Together they had almost 45 % share of the market in US.

    3.DENIM IMPORTS IN 2020 IN THE FIRST QUARTER

    Compared to 2019, 2020 imports were affected as expected , and the decreased in quantity. The total import of denim in 2020 in the first quarter was around 85 million pieces at an average price of USD 8.35. Bangladesh and Mexico exported the highest quantum of denim with a total volume of about 19 million pieces at an average price of USD7.08 and 14 million pieces at an avg. price of USD 9.7 respectively. Because of the pandemic, China’s exports decreased by more than 50 % in 2020 – that is from 23 million pieces to only 9.12 million pieces. Also its market share fell from 22% to less than 10% . Bangladesh increased its market share from 15% to 22% . Mexico also lost share in the market. Hence the biggest gainer in the pandemic was Bangladesh. Pakistan also gained some share in the pandemic year.

    4.DENIM IMPORTS IN 2021 IN THE FIRST QUARTER

    Many countries suffered a great loss of exports in 2020 but slowly in 2021 recovery signs can be seen. Compared to 2020, 2021 import results are much better. The total import of denim in 2021 in the first quarter was around 92 million pieces at an average price of USD 7.90. Bangladesh and Mexico exported the highest volume even in 2021, with a total volume of about 20 million pieces at an average price of USD 6.88 and 15 million pieces at an avg. price of USD 9.42 respectively. China that was affected by the pandemic is now slowly recovering by increasing its exports of the first quarter to 11 million pieces.

    With the recovery in the first quarter of 2021, it is evident that recovery has started and we are going to witness much better figures in this year and beyond .     1.TOTAL JEANS IMPORTED FROM VIETNAM DURING 2010-2020

    As we can see from the table below, Vietnam has increased its share of EU imports significantly over the last 10 years.

    • From 0.7 % share in 2010, it increased to 1.2 % in 2020.
    • In 2018 it shows a rise of 1 % in 2013 and then there was a constant volume of imports from 2016-2019.
    • There was a fall of 0.8% in 2018. 
    • The highest imports were in 2020 of around 1.2 million pieces with an avg. price of Euro 4.67.

    2.MEN’S JEANS IMPORTED TO EU

    Vietnam imported around 36 million pieces of men’s jeans in the last 10 years. In 2019, Vietnam exported the highest number of men’s jeans with a total volume of about 4.52 million pieces at an average price of EURO 13. And due to the pandemic 2020 exported much fewer jeans compared to 2019.

    As we can see from graphs above, the quantity has been steadily increasing over the last few years whereas the price , which increased from Euro 8 to Euro 13 per pc is more or less constant in the last few years. This also shows that Vietnam has climbed up the value graph as it seems to be able to export at higher prices than that of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

    2. WOMEN’S JEANS IMPORTED TO EU

    Vietnam imported around 18 million pieces of women’s jeans in the last 10 years. In 2015, Vietnam exported the highest number of women’s jeans with a total volume of about 2.95 million pieces at an average price of EURO 4.63.

    As we can see from the price graph above, we find that the average prices of Men’s jeans have remained more or less similar around Euro 13 whereas women’s jeans have fluctuated from around Euro 5 in 2015 to Euro 9 in 2017 and finally settling around Euro 11 from 2018-2020. The volumes of exports are still negligible compared to those from Bangladesh and Pakistan. However, as EVFTA keeps on moving forward , the exports of denim apparel from Vietnam will increase and help the country to establish a strong denim export presence. We already see a number of new units – both of fabrics and garments coming up and in the near future we expect them to add strongly to the exports already happening.

    1.TOTAL JEANS IMPORTED FROM INDONESIA DURING 2010-2020

    As we can see from the table below, Indonesia has decreased its share of EU imports significantly over the last 10 years. From 0.57% share in 2010, it gradually decreased to 0.06% in 2020 . This is also logical as Indonesia’s cost of production has been rising continuously and it has not duty advantage to Europe. Highest imports were in 2010 of 2.89 million pieces with an avg. price of Euro 6.51. As we can see while imports gradually started decreasing down for two years it again showed some gain in 2013 and 2014. But then it dropped down continuously till the %share reached from 0.37% to 0.06%.

    Indonesia imported around 10 million pieces in last 10 years. In 2014 Indonesia exported the highest number of men’s jeans with a total volume of about 2.05 million pieces at an average price of EURO 7.49. Compared to 2019, 2020 exported much fewer jeans.

    In 2010 Indonesia imported the highest number of women’s jeans with a total volume of about 1.48 million pieces at an average price of EURO 5.41. Compared to 2018, 2019 imported fewer jeans, and due to pandemic in 2020, it fell drastically around 40% since 2019. It is quite likely that the imports will pick up very strongly in 2021 and we might even see the figures exceeding that of 2018.

    TOP COUNTRIES SUPPLYING DENIM FABRICS TO COLOMBIA


    During Dec 2020- Jan 2021, Colombia has imported approx. 10 million sqm of denim fabrics or an average of 5 million sq mtrs each month.

    INDIA  is the biggest exporter of Denim Fabric to Mexico with a total volume of about 3.9 million sqm at an average price of USD 1.09/sqm. CHINA is the 2nd biggest denim supplier which exported about 3.7 million sqm denim fabric at an average price of USD 1.55/sqm. So here it looks like China’s fabric is much more expensive than that of India.

    (Note: this data has been captured from various govt organizations including customs. the actual imports are likely to be higher than this figure. Also, we need to understand that the prices are sometimes not correct representations as in Mexico there are many suppliers under-reporting the actual price for custom benefits )

    As far as the average price is concerned, India’s average price turned to be the lowest amongst all at $1.09/sq meter. Mexico exported the fabric at the most expensive average price of USD 2.23/Sqm. Venezuela exported the fabric at the 2nd most competitive price i.e, $1.27/sqm.

    India is at #1 with a 39.8% share and China at #2 with a 38.1% share.

    TOP DENIM EXPORTERS TO COLOMBIA

    So far as the denim exporters are concerned Zhejiang XInlan (China) and MPVR Trading (Mexico)  are the biggest exporters of denim fabric to Colombia with a total import of 0.74 million sqm and 0.7 million sqm of denim fabric respectively. MPVR Trading supplied at the most expensive average price i.e., $2.06/sqm.

    1.TOTAL JEANS IMPORTED FROM BANGLADESH DURING 2010-2020

    As we can see from the table below, Bangladesh has increased its share of EU imports significantly over the last 10 years. From a 19% share in 2010, it has doubled to 38% in 2020 and becoming the largest supplier of jeans to Europe.

    2.MEN’S JEANS IMPORTED TO EU

    In 2018 Bangladesh exported the highest number of men’s jeans with a total volume of about 134.28 million pieces at an average price of EURO 5.87. Compared to 2018, 2019 exported fewer jeans, and due to pandemic in 2020, it fell drastically around 30% since 2019.

    1. The below graph shows how much value of men’s jeans was exported during 2010-2020

    2. The graphs below shows the Men’s Jeans imported to Europe during 2010-2020. It is clear that there was a clear and continuous growth till 2018 and we see some slump coming in 2019 and 2020 was clearly affected by the pandemic.

    3. In the following graph , its visible that the price peaked in 2015 and after that it more or less hovered between Euro 6- 6.50 . It is likely that we might see a rise in price in 2021.

    2. WOMEN’S JEANS IMPORTED TO EU

    In 2018 Bangladesh imported the highest number of women’s jeans with a total volume of about 107.1 million pieces at an average price of EURO 5.51. Compared to 2018, 2019 imported fewer jeans, and due to pandemic in 2020, it fell drastically around 30% since 2019 – almost same fall that Men’s jeans also experienced. It is quite likely that the imports will pick up very strongly in 2021 and we might even see the figures exceeding that of 2018.

    3. We can see that strangely that even the women’s jeans price peaked in 2015 and have seen a decline since. Even in 2020 , the price fell whereas the men’s jeans price had risen.

    From all the figures above , we can say that Bangladesh is now the most important exporter of jeans to EU and has been continuously increasing its exports to EU. Even with the setback of 2019, it continues to grow and is expected to show great figures for 2021.

    COUNTRIES SUPPLYING DENIM FABRICS TO MEXICO DURING DECEMBER 2020 -JANUARY 2021


    During Dec 2020- Jan 2021, Mexico has imported approx. 28 million sqm of denim fabrics or an average of 14 million sq mtrs each month. This is about 30% more than November 2020 when the imports were about 11 million sq mtrs. . The main reason being that the effect of coronavirus started decreasing during the month of November.

    CHINA is the biggest exporter of Denim Fabric to Mexico with a total volume of about 25.8 million sqm at an average price of USD 0.71/sqm. INDIA is the 2nd biggest denim supplier which exported 1.95 million sqm of denim fabric at an average price of USD 0.9/sqm. Thus China still controls about 90% of the market !

    (Note: this data has been captured from various govt organizations including customs. the actual imports are likely to be higher than this figure. Also, we need to understand that the prices are sometimes not correct representations as in Mexico there are many suppliers under reporting the actual price for custom benefits )

    COUNTRY WISE DENIM EXPORTS JANUARY 2021

    There are 14 countries from where Vietnam imported denim fabric in the month of January 2021. 82.76% of denim imported from China at an average price of $2.96/meter while other countries that are exporting denim to Vietnam include Turkey, Taiwan, Pakistan, South Korea, and Japan. Vietnam imported 7.5 million meters of denim during January 2021 at an average price of $3.09/meter.

    Note: This figure is likely to be much higher as the full data is normally not captured in the figures received from various authorities.

    Japan exported the denim at the most expensive average price of $9.20/meter and India exported at the cheapest average price of $2.04/meter.

    Leading Exporters Of Fabric To Vietnam – June 2020

    TOP SUPPLIERS

    Crystal Apparel Limited, one of the biggest denim manufacturers in the world, is the biggest supplier to Vietnamese companies and during January 2021, it exported more than 1.18 million meters at an average price of $3.23/meter. Crystal Apparel is the world’s largest denim apparel producer and also sources fabrics from its suppliers and exports to Vietnam. The list of suppliers also includes Nien Hsing Textile, GR Group Holdings, and Shragatex Luxury Denim.

    Most of the top exporters belong to China which shows the great dependence of Vietnamese companies on China. Many of these suppliers like Texhong are apparel producers and supply to their own units in Vietnam.

    TOP COUNTRIES SUPPLYING DENIM FABRICS TO COLOMBIA

    In the month of December 2020, Colombia has imported approx. 4.2 million sqm of denim fabrics. With 1.84 million sqm of denim fabric export, India strongly positioned itself as the #1 exporter of denim to Colombia, China is at #2 with 34.42% share in the total import.

    China exported 1.84 million sqm of denim fabrics at an average price of $1.51/sqm.

    As far as the average price is concerned, India’s average price turned to be least average price amongst all i.e, $1.03/sq meter. Mexico exported the fabric at the most expensive average price of USD 2.24/Sqm. Venezuela exported the fabric at the 2nd most competitive price i.e, $1.31/sqm.

    India is at #1 with a 43.2% share and China at #2 with a 34.4% share.

    TOP DENIM EXPORTERS TO COLOMBIA

    So far as the denim exporters are concerned MPVR Trading (Mexico) and Zhejiang XInlan (China)  are the biggest exporters of denim fabric to Colombia with a total import of 398 thousand sqm and 308 thousand sqm of denim fabric respectively. MPVR Trading supplied at the most expensive average price i.e., $2.14/sqm.

    COUNTRIES SUPPLYING DENIM FABRICS TO MEXICO DURING NOVEMBER 2020

    In the month of November 2020, Mexico has imported approx.11.7 million sqm of denim fabrics. CHINA is the biggest exporter of Denim Fabric to Mexico with a total volume of about 11.08 million sqm contributing more than 94% in total import of denim. India is the 2nd biggest denim supplier which exported 0.43 million sqm of denim fabric.
